one of his greatest songs ever. Especially the 12 inch version. Without that 1st top ten hit, 1999 album would've been in trouble sales wise. It also lead to him doing the PR movie. It's a true classic. You're joking, right?

you are completely right Rusty1 on so many levels and so am I It was Prince's first top 10 hit and introduced him to millions, the 12" version with the different drum pattern is better, and it still makes me throw up a little in my mouth every time I hear it

I think it must be a "1982 thing" Every Breath you take also came out that year; biggest earning song ever according to Wikipedia, was a massive hit, and the lyrics are all about a stalker and are as creepy as f$&k .

It was the opposite in the states. "Gett Off" stalled early on the U.S. chart missing the top 20 while "Cream" and "Diamonds and Pearls" were huge hits.

Side note: I knew of many people who thought that Erotic City was on Purple Rain. Not as a B-side, but as an actual album song and single. It got that much airplay in our area back then (Detroit).

For the most part though, I can't think of anything considered a classic that isn't. Maybe NC2U until the recent Prince-studio-version came out. The live duet on Hits wasn't really all that great.
