"Parade" is low on my list of wanted SDEs (below "Around The World In A Day" and "Lovesexy"). I mean, don't get me wrong: I'll take any classic-era Prince special edition. I love Prince! It's just that "Parade" isn't one of my favorite overall albums.

.

HOWEVER... an SDE from this time period could be just as jam-packed as the upcoming SOTT reissue. Just based on the couple of proposed tracklists that the Orgers have put together, the "Parade" SDE has the potential to really knock our socks off, Vault-wise.

.

I'm all for a big-ass "Parade" SDE, if it's done correctly.

Parade is a pure masterpiece, and sonically quite unique from almost everything else that he's put out.

DM/Controversy/1999/PR/ATWIAD were all pretty much part of the same evolutionary track, most of which is the "purple" era. Parade is quite different.

The only "bad" thing about Parade SDE would be introducing tracks that might detract from that perfect album.

Parade SDE Might allow for the inclusion of his versions of the Family tracks and Mia Bocca which featured in the Film plus any tracks destined for Roadhouse Garden as this was being worked on at the time

I assume Parade Super Deluxe will be next because:

A.) It's from the '80s and they're focused on '80s music.

B.) It has the last remaining major hit: Kiss. (Arguably there were big hits on Batman and Diamonds and Pearls, but both the masses and the critics seemed to have forgotten those, perhaps for the better.)

C.) It has a ton of desirable outtakes.

What other album meets all three of those benchmarks?

2021: Parade remaster, finally.

2022: Batman remaster, with at least one disc of actually good tracks.

2023: Dirty Mind and Controversy remasters

2024: Around the World in a Day remaster

2025: A three year winter wipes out the weak, leaving a brutal and lifeless world where only the strong survive.

2028: Prince returns, piloting a fearsome ship made of the fingernails of the unworthy dead, bringing with him the army of the unliving from Hel.

2029: Ragnarok. The final battle. Gods and giants clash in a world-shaking cataclysm that singes the very World Tree to ashes.

2030: Lovesexy remaster and Black Album on streaming.

So, by "one disc of actually good tracks".... you mean the entire "Batman" album. But what about the other discs?...

Well, here's my personal tracklisting of a Batman remaster. I think you'll agree it improves on the original release:

DISC 1: Batman Remastered

1. The Future

2. Electric Chair

3. Scandalous

4. Prince playing the 1966 Batman theme on a piano over and over for about an hour.

DISC 2: Rave Unto the Joy Fantastic 88 & 89 tracks.

DISC 3: Batman Outtakes

DISC 4: Extended Mixes & Remixes

DISC 5: Nude Tour live album

DISC 6: Prince playing the Batman theme on piano for over an hour.

I'd rather have a "Dirty Mind" or "Controversy" deluxe but I doubt it will be either of those. The expanded editions they have released so far have been the ones I predicted which were "Purple Rain" which was the most popular mainstream album and "1999" which was the one that introduced him to the pop world (although most people have forgotten that "I Wanna Be Your Lover" was his first introduction to the pop world during the disco era which is when I first got into Prince).

.

Now we've got "Sign O The Times" coming up which is the album that the most people at the org have been raving about for years. I'm seeing a pattern here that apparently whoever that is releasing these is paying attention to the comments from the fan boards because let's be real here, we're the majority of the poeple that will buy them, not the mainstream public. Which is smart because their goal is to make money. I predict that the next one will be "Parade" because that's another one I've seen get a lot of praise around here. Then I predict "Around The World In A Day". I'm also assuming that the "Parade" and "Around The World In A Day" eras would have more unreleased tracks than the earlier eras such as "Dirty Mind" or "Controversy" that I prefer (unless there a lot more in the vault that I don't know about).

.

But going by the popularity factor of the mainstream when the albums were first released and also considering that someone must be paying attention to the comments on the internet, y'all need to keep your damn mouths shut about "Diamonds and Pearls" or anything else from the 1990s. Hell, I'll be turning 53 Friday and ain't getting any younger. Keep the releases in the 1980s and then the 1970s and y'all can have all the 1990s up until the present after I'm dead and gone. I didn't wait all these years to hear some unreleased mess with Tony M all over it. lol

.

And when in the HELL are we going to get these full completed unreleased albums he used to talk about? I love the expanded editions with unreleased outtakes but they should be additional releases each year with a full unreleased album, not the main release.

My turn already came with the 1999 SDE, IMO the best music release ever. I'll eagerly grab up all the SDEs that the estate puts out, but my next most preferred ones would be Dirty Mind and Controversy, then Lovesexy.

Hey, I like "Parade". Yeah, when I first bought it and heard those strings, I wanted to throw it against the wall but as I listened to it more in the next few weeks, I grew to like it. Would I have rather had an album sounding more like the "Old Prince", most definitely, but I did like "Parade". And in recent years after listening to the earlier albums over and over for so many years, I've started playing the mid to late 1980s albums a lot more and have grown to really love them and appreciate the diversity of them that no one else would have dared to do at the time. But then again, the more you hear of current music by current so-called artists (and you can't escape hearing it because they will even play that mess on the "Today" show while you're watching the news), you'll pull out albums you haven't played in ages to get the sound of that current mess out of your head. lol

.

I always had a feeling though, that a certain little someone was lurking the org and reading some of the posts. And as it turns out, I was right because it finally came out that he had an account here. Hell, I've probably gotten into an argument with him over here. lol I also saw a picture that someone posted of a handwritten post-it note that he had written to one of his flunkies to have some pictures taken down off of the org. When I saw that, I was like.... spit But I always had a feeling that he lurked over here. I know if I were him, I would have in attempt to see what the fans wanted so I could plan what type of album to release next. Whenever "Parade" would come up, I would see all those comments..... "Oh, the strings were sooooooo beauuuuutiful.".....and I would be thinking to myself..... "Oh HELL naw, I can just see this little motherfucker reading this shit and giving us another full fledged classical album like "Karma Sutra" or "NEWS". They need to shut the hell up!". evillol

"1999" was my first choice too and I was extremely pleased with it. My only complaint was they left off "Extraloveable" and "Lust U Always" but if they released them, some of these loony toons would have lost their minds. Also, I wish the lighting on the DVD had not been so dark. Other than that, I loved it. It's the kind of Prince release that I've been wanting for decades.

So, if ATWIAD has enough outakes and songs in the vault to warrant a Superdeluxe than ATWIAD will be before Dirty Mind. Keep in mind Purple Rain, 1999, SOTT, and dirty mind made the Rollingstones top 500 albums of the 1980's. Parade is also a fan favorite album. But we will get a Dirty Mind remaster (hopefully a deluxe).

I've been looking at YouTube for the past couple days and I noticed that most circulating unreleased tracks can be found there, but two I couldn't find in their studio form are both from 1980: "Lisa" and "Rough". I think there were YouTube links to these previously, so maybe that's a sign of something? Complete conjecture, of course.

I predict Parade Super Deluxe for next year. However, after that it will be (2022)Dirty mind or ATWIAD (2023) (or visa versa).

This all depends on if Sony want to continue with the SDE program since they own those albums. Warners still own Parade so that's a given.

I realized in another thread that we should maybe quit using the verb "own", since it appears to confuse a lot of people. Maybe "distribute"?

At the rate of 2 shows a year give or take, it'll take 20 to 30 years before the number of official live shows beat the number of soundboard bootlegs neutral

People don't like transhumanistm but all Prince fans should want to live for another coupla centuries lol

I'd love ANY SDE in 2021. But I think a "For You" box is possible and would be really fascinating and revelatory if it included a lot of the really really early stuff, including Loring Park, Studio 80 etc, and then tons of demos and songs like "Make It Through the Storm."

I mentioned this elsewhere, but I think these Special Editions so far are conceived as stories. I think the creators care a LOT about packaging an overall story in these releases. That's why I think Lovesexy, Dirty Mind, or For You are the most likely, because the story is really there. I can't see them picking an album next where the story is a) not as compelling as to get articles/podcasts written about it b) something too similar in time to what they've been up to (which is why I don't think it will be Parade this year). They know only real P fans are spending $150+ dollars on these, so they want to get them out of the woodwork based around a whole era to get lost in with a compelling narrative.

Do you agree?

Since foot traffic is low in retail stores and some people are strapped due to lack of work.It makes more sense to concentrate on Super Deluxes to maximize profits to reach the hard core fans willing to spend the money. Where as the casual fan may pass even on just buying the remaster regular album. Parade Super deluxe will help clear up some of the bootlegs (that never got an official release) and bring in some needed cash.

I could see Diamonds and Pearls being the next one. It was such a commercially successful time for Prince, there was a huge tour so lots of footage to choose from etc.

Personally I'd prefer something from early Prince career, but D&P would be cool. Also, it feels like the SoTT collection intersects with Parade stuff quite a lot so jumping ahead in time isn't a bad idea.
