Yes, it is. I agree with the statement from SquirrleMeat. I do however agree that everyone is entitled to change and grow and believe in anything they wish, but I think Prince's music became somewhat generic during the early 2000's because he was trying to believe in the JW doctorine. | |

people dont have trouble with Prince becoming more "religious"...certain people have a problem with it because he didnt prescribe to THEIR spiritual beliefs (or lack thereof)..like a few people have mentioned, P was always putting his love and fear of God in our faces..you just danced and sang around it.. but then when he switches beliefs decades later and the music didnt appeal to SOME people as much, its somehow Larry Graham and the JWs fault...how 'bout maybe after giving you pure nonstop excellence from 1978- 1993, the brother just started finding it increasingly harder to come up with fresh new ideas in a fickle, shark infested business?...why blame a man's relationship with who he believes to be God, for what some people think is some kind of "tanking"?...theres people that make 2 albums and die by gunfire... Prince made over a FEW DOZEN albums, multiple movies, made millions, traveled the world, owned several valuable properties, at a very young age..how is that in ANY way "tanking"?... didnt he do enough?...didnt he exceed everyone else?...stop blaming someone elses religious beliefs for what YOU dont like... thats some diabolical, selfish shit [Edited 9/25/20 10:45am] |

Prince was always a religious seeker and I find the twists and turns of his religious/spiritual journey quite compelling. It takes an expansive, curious spirit to examine everything from Egyptian religions to Eastern thought to JW and back again. On some levels he was very private but he lived his religious beliefs out loud and risked ridicule. Regarding his 'tanking', he experienced ebbs and flows like any creative. I wish he could have rested and slept more.
He took us on some wild spiritual/musical rides. I will never tire of trying to learn more about him. "God" must have gotten a kick out of him, too.

Everything is always someone's opinion or view. I guess the internet makes it look like an absolute. But do we really have to constantly say "that's just my opinion" after each sentence to avoid anyone getting "offended"? Drugs are bad! (in my opinion)

I think Prince always had a spiritual side, and I don’t think JW is too far off from the 7th Day Adventist he was raised with (if I’m remembering correctly). I think Larry Graham swooped in during a time of tragedy and it possibly forced Prince to fiercely hide his addictions. (Harder to get help given the image he created and the perceived judgment from the church.) I missed his “younger self” on later tours but still an excellent performance. If his career waned at all, I think it was from many different factors, and no musician is number one forever. | |
