Breaking News, Prince could be dick like the rest of us. Next up is: "Shocker! Prince drank water." I really don't get the concept of turning these things into whole ass articles, maybe it's just me, and I don't say it cause it's prince, but, unless someone's been raped, or sh*t like that, I don't see the point of making it a "Story".

Yeah, I'd be pissed too, but I wouldn't wait 20+ years with complaining, I also would've kicked his ass, I don't give a damn about bodyguards, they sure had their own guards too.

AWESOME INFO!!!

He is noted as having played one short aftershow on 21 April (am), 1997 at the DNA Lounge, San Francisco, after the second show in San Jose in 1997:

http://www.princevault.co...il_1997-am

As it transpires, the incident is actually recorded in some detail in Uptown's The Vault, which confirms the above date and states that the house band whose equipment had been borrowed was called, 'The Grooveline'. The detail in The Vault describes Prince damaging the borrowed guitar following the performance of 'The Ride'.

However, when the band returned to continue the show, The Vault states that Prince appeared to be teaching Rhonda Smith the bass part during 'Thank You For Talkin' To Me Africa', after which the guitar was smashed again. It could be that Prince had borrowed a bass guitar for this song, when this second incident occurred.

that part in purple i saw also happen at an OKC aftershow in "In Kahoots", a downtown country bar.

...such nasty duschbaggery, although, the bass was never smashed, but Rhonda had "that" look on her face...

You make a hell of a convincing case, especially with the added details about the band Grooveline.

I don't remember DNA Lounge having anything close to a house band, but

one article from the era describes "For the college crowd it was boogie down to Grooveline, an Afro- bewigged '70s funk cover band, at the DNA Lounge", and the DNA Lounge wiki describes weekend parties from Grooveline and the M80's, and they're still around advertising themselves as a former house band https://inn-entertainment...rooveline/

https://www.wc-entertainm...eline.html

Don't see any connection between Grooveline and Stix Zadinia, whose wiki page lists his career as starting in 1997 but that band are from San Jose, and played corporate gigs around sports.

Everything lines up except for Stix being there and being the one to tell the story.

Don't let a rock star use your instruments. For every asshole, there are 2 idiots who let themselves get suckered. Go play the victim somewhere else.

Exactly how is the guy playing the victim? He's simply telling a story about his "no name" band at the time, who were kind enough to let Prince use their instruments, who in return, acted like a rude ass, and trashed them, after showing up late, and kicking the guys out of their dressing room, demanding that they not look at him! Yet you say the guy should "go play the victim somewhere else!" Worship Prince all you want, but what Prince did was incredibly rude and uncalled for, and YES, he was a complete and utter asshole! Prince could be nasty and rude when he wanted to be, and just because he was Prince, doesn't make it okay.

No doubt Prince was a dick in this incident, but the weird thing to me is that the 'Steel Panther' guy would just casually allow another musician to use his instrument.

Maybe people are sucked into it because they can then say "Prince used my guitar!", but generally musicians are very, very careful and protective of their gear. If I was a small-time musician who depended on my band's income to pay the bills, I don't care if Eric Clapton and the ghost of Jimi Hendrix came in. If they said, "Hey no-name guy! We're using your cheap-ass guitar for the next hour. Cool?", I'd say NOOOOOO.

Prince needs to have all the blame here.

He did not arrange instruments in time.

He borrowed stuff.

He damaged stuff perhaps because he did not want them to fetch high prices as 'being used by Prince' later.

He did not take care of stuff properly.

Also his behaviour afterwards was not so cool to put it mildly.

This fits in the bigger picture of Prince.

He was winging things. Contracts. Careers. Women. Music?

Even his own health.

Bet someone already did, but beating up Prince would probably be easy for the average rocker. The person might've not felt so good about it afterward so they never told anyone about it.

Also nobody out there really ready to give you kudos for beating up a short icon.

No one here said it's cool as far as I can tell. But to be honest, it's a non story. People are dicks, prince could be one too. And it's actually kinda wimpy to wait 20+ years with complaining.

There’s being a dick, and then there's being a major league asshole. Smashing other people's stuff falls into the latter category.

I'd also say that this was way beyond run of the mill diva behaviour. It was out and out sociopathic.

Also, I can understand Prince not wanting to transport his 'back line' equipment(amps, drums) to a club at short notice. But would it have been so much trouble to bring his own guitar with him?

Come on, would you have really said "NOOOOOO" to Prince if he asked to use your "cheap-ass guitar for the next hour?" No offense, but i find that hard to believe. lol Of course "the Steel Panther guy would just casually allow another musician to use his instrument" especially if that guy was Prince! Poor guy probably thought it was an honor!

It is not about the borrowing, it is about the treatment of someone else's property.

Good observation, especially since Stix put out albums like 'Balls Out':

"It Won't Suck Itself"

"That's What Girls Are For"

"Gold Digging Whore"

"I Like Drugs"

"Let Me Cum In"

"Weenie Ride"

"Handicapped Slut"
