How would you change The Gold Experience? What songs would you keep? Which ones would you remove? What else would you add from that era?
Personally i would add "Interactive" as a nice rocker instead of P Control. I would open with the brilliance of Endorphinmachine (without cowbells)
Keep: 319, Shy, TMBGITW, Gold, Dolphin
Add: Interactive, Love Sign The Ride
Remove: P Control, Now (even though its a guilty pleasure)

P said in the liner notes of Crystal Ball that Interactive and Endorphinmachine didn't work back to back and he was right, but Interactive is a better song and fits better with the theme of the album. So in my perfect world, sorry, Endorphinmachine, but you're out. And then we'd have Days of Wild of course! And Beautiful Girl without all the sound effects. Acknowledge Me is also pretty good and I can do without We March. The rest of the album is fine. Nothing really great, but still pretty good. If you take any of this seriously, you're a bigger fool than I am.

In my perfect world, combine Come and Gold Experience as a triple album But with more raw production like early Come iterations so it all sounds good together I mean, we have The Dawn bootleg, but imagine that actually done by Prince himself

I love the album, but here are a few changes I would make...
*Remove "P Control" and replace it with the superior "Hide The Bone".
*Remove "We March",replace it with "Days Of Wild" and make it the title track (I think 'The Gold Experience' is a corny title for an album).
*Add the excellent track "Ripopgodazippa" to the album.

Add Days of Wild, one of his best songs, and get rid of the seques. [Edited 8/1/20 11:53am]

lately, i've been enjoying it like this: and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I was so pissed off Days Of Wild didn't make the cut after being obsessed with it in The Beautiful Experience movie. So that would be the first thing I'd add. . Similar case with Acknowledge Me so that would be in and as someone else said Interactive should be in for the concept. . There's also Ripopgodazippa. I only noticed recently after all these years on Crystal Ball you can hear the keyboard typing sound effect at the end as was intended on the album. . Really could have been a superb double album..

I don't understand why some people on this site are always wanting to change Prince's albums. Leave his shit alone! The albums are how he wanted them to be.

Don't use it as a ploy to renegotiate with WB and release it in '94 when you have some public momentum behind MBGITW

. At the time of delivery to WB (or whatever record label). And for reasons that could be entirely non-musical. Paisley Park is in your heart - Love Is Here!

Wouldn’t change a thing about the album we actually got, although I’m sure I’d have loved some of the alternate configurations as well. Maybe just tack on Interactive, Days of Wild and Acknowledge Me as bonus tracks somewhere. Pretty much everything he did in this era seems to reach ‘personal favourite’ status for me. Between Come and TGE, Interactive, Acknowledge Me and Days Of Wild definately deserved to be released at that time. I don't know what you'd eject from TGE other than the obvious musical weaklink of We March.

We March has to go (how on earth did that end up on the Anthology??)
I thought Interactive worked pretty well live with Endorphinmachine. I would try to find a space for it somewhere.
Some version of Days of Wild needs to be there.
The Ride and Ripopgodazippa are worthy of inclusion.
Achnowledge Me makes a good case.
The question is, how long should the album be. If we're keeping it at it's current run time, it gets more interesting on what gets bumped. Because I'm struggling to lose anything apart from We March.

Deffo add Days of Wild Studio version. Tagged it on to the of my iPod album anyway! "Lisa, i'm gonna give u the brush, and u're gonna paint the side of the train..."

It's my all-time favorite, so I wouldn't change much other than to add Days of Wild and Rock n Roll is Alive (And it Lives in Minneapolis) as a bonus track because it slaps so hard.

Unless the swearing offends people, I don’t get the hate for P Control. I’ve read critics call it misogynist and they obviously weren’t listening. It’s pretty much the template for Beyoncé’s whole consumer feminism shtick. Always loved it, especially how the hooks merge, and think it’s a great opener. If I could make one change, it would be removing “please access another experience” from the jam on Billy Jack Bitch. Ruins it for the DJ booth. I’m not crazy about a few of the others but rate this album high because the A-material is tremendous.

Remove "Shy." I fucking hate that song. I sequenced it the fuck out and mixed the segues so it flows right the fuck over it. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

It doesn't even come close to Purple Rain. That album was Prince at the peak of his power, TGE is him trying to stay relevant in a music world that was changing. There's nothing on TGE as great as When Doves Cry or The Beautiful Ones or any other PR song. If you take any of this seriously, you're a bigger fool than I am.

this album was a bit of a mess id change it to the following, to make it a bit more cohesive and more like the band sounded at that time, though i know that is all relative with an artist like prince.
i know thats a short album, but not all albums need to be more than 40/45 mins. most 90s prince albums really needed cutting.

I get why some think of this album as "the Purple Rain of the 90s".
the title track is a big, arena rock anthem like the Purple Rain title song.
"I Hate U" is a big,over-the-top ballad that gets more aggressive and louder at the end, similiar to "The Beautiful Ones".
In one review,a critic described "319" as a "Kiss" for the 90s.
TGE is a very "loud" album......similiar to the Purple Rain album.

"Purple Rain of the 90s" = people who like electric rawk guitar/fuzzbox/a general arena rock approach. [Edited 8/2/20 15:03pm]

Why a guilty pleasure?
I'd say it's overall my favorite track and quite simply my favorite song.
It speaks the ULTIMATE truth in a way that only could tell it.
