Slave/New World/Human Body

Thought these were bad back in '96 and now they sound even worse. I'm all for experimental Prince but this was bad.

Hell lots of Disc 3 is pretty bad (Da Da Da????) but I appreciate Face Down more now, love the cover songs and think the Love We Make is underrated. Emancipation is good enough closer and captures his mode nicely of that time.

Was he that hard up to fill up 3 discs?

Wrong. Slave and New World are two of the best tracks on the album. Human Body is substantially worse than those two, but sometimes I'm still in the mood for it.

I've probably listened to Human Body less times than I've listened to Wedding Feast, tbh.

I absolutely LOVE Slave!!!! It's my second favorite Emancipation song right after Soul Sanctuary. I always thought that New World and Human Body would have been perfect songs to play at dance clubs and hoped that the DJs around the world would have discovered them and spun them on their turntables. There's so much potential for DJs to play around with the sounds on New World/Human Body. I would have loved to been on the dance floor when New World came on and I would've danced my *ss off!!

Different people, different tastes. I love pretty much all of Disc 3 except for Da Da Da.

Slave, New World, Style, Sleep Around, Face Down, My Computer, The Love We Make? "Disc 3 is pretty bad?" No, sir. Disc 3 is pretty damn good.

An aside... New World has always sounded like it could have been a Michael Jackson song.

I have always been a fan of these tracks...and most of disc 3. I too have never really liked “da da da” with the exception of his rap. That track really took me out of the groove for disc 3. And “the love we make” wow!!! Always interesting how fans have such different views about Emancipation. I wonder if I started a thread about people’s favorites on a one disc compilation biggrin

nah...DISC 3 is by far the best one of the 3 IMO...i like all 3 of those songs you named..especially "Slave" and "Human Body".. i love when P did the techno-funk stuff.. "Human Body", "My Computer", "Sleep Around" and "Slave" are the best songs on the whole Emancipation lp..

I dug "New World" and loved "Human Body". I used to crank that one in the car back then. It was almost like classic 1980-81 Prince singing over a (then) modern techno club track.

Those are 3 of the best songs on Emancipation for me! I think more than any other album, Emancipation is suited for a "grab-bag" approach based on individual tastes. The countless threads about whittling it down to an ideal 1-disc album are testament to that.

I have yet to see a fan who really likes Da,Da, Da...it has a stupid title, too. lol

But I really like Prince´s rap part in it, its positive message and the beat.

Scrap D wasn´t really that bad either, I´d say much better than Tony M but then again I kinda like Tony M on 2Gether.

I coincidentally met Scrap at a good friend´s place shortly after he recorded this song with Prince and he´s a really nice and talkative person. We talked a bit about Prince´s favorite rappers and how they recorded the song but it´s all a blur to me and it´s been a long time.

As far as Slave, New World and Human Body are concerned, I much prefer Human Body over the previous two but they all already sounded a bit dated when they came out. I understand that he liked House music and House remixes of his songs and I think a talented House DJ could´ve turned these three songs into decent club hits but they are not exactly my most listened to songs on the Emancipation album. But The Human Body has a nice rhythm.

Out of the three discs,Disc 3 is my least favorite.I never liked stuff like "Face Down","Style" and "Da Da Da".

I do enjoy "My Computer",though.

hardwork

"The Human Body" might be the best thing on the entire set. Not one of my favorite Prince projects by any means ("Emancipation,") but that's the cream of it right there - "The Human Body." Prince loved the people of Detroit - every now and then he'd slip a little bit of Derrick May/Juan Atkins type of shit up in his own shit and here he lays his beautiful falsetto over it. I think it's fantastic and the notion that it is somehow woefully substandard and that its woeful substandardness is somehow supposed to be self-evident is WAY off the mark.

Only thing remotely experimental out of those three is "Slave" and that track is FIRE. It's really the best track on the entire 3 disc album for me.

Disc 3 is my favourite but DaDaDa is horrific.

It's almost as if people like different things and threads like these always prove that Prince was right to release a 3 disc set. We can all pick and choose our favourites and each have a fantastic collection. Just imagine your favourite single disc version of the best Emancipation tracks...

RIP sad

I don't like the self pitying lyrics of Slave. Out the 3 my favourite would be New World. I like the way Human Body turns atmospheric and sinister.

.

About Da, Da, Da - I'm not mad on the rap but I like P's verse and the instrumental last 1-2 mins remind me a bit of the last 1-2 mins of Sign O The Times

We should start a self-help group and discuss how much and why we like it. I´ve been here since day one and you´re the first orger to admit that he likes that song. wink

😎... we dont need self-help, Fam...the song is dope...beat is cool...Scrap D, while unknown, arguably contributed the best emceeing on any Prince song by a featured rapper...those bars were better than anything TonyM or TCEllis ever put down...even Chuck D sounded uninspired and out of place on "Undisputed"...Prince doesnt have many successful attempts at HipHop... "Da, Da, Da" is one of the few hiphop songs P pulled off that worked.

U Know
The Flow
My Medallion
Y Would Eye Do That When Eye Could Do This
Da Da Da
Silicon

in that order

Total love for Slave. Great track.

New World and Human Body took me awhile to appreciate but now both are decent, but not outstanding. They are fine album tracks imo. Da da da, I skipped for years, but I agree with whoever said when Prince comes in then the rest of the song is actually pretty good.

Overall Disc 3 is my fave of the set. The weakest for me has always been Disc 1.... there are some decent tracks, like White Mansion and In this Bed I Scream... but some real shit...Mr Happy: barf

Prince could have released a "techno" album in the mid 90s.

Stuff like Come (original version), Loose!, Pheromone, New World, The Human Body and a few others show that "techno" was not foreign to him and he was quite comfortable in that sound.

Even "Come On (Remix)" and "Strange But True" many years later had some cool stuff going on.

Peopel keep bringing up the Come On remix, but I always though it paled in mood compared to the album version. I don't remember this techno aspect... need to dig it up and listen.

New World and The Human Body are great and amongst the best on Emancipation.

People are probably talking about "Come On: Hyper Mix". that's pretty much in the same vein as
the other tracks mentioned.

Another cool little 'techno-ish' track is the Hot Wit U unnamed remix that was sandwiched between
New World and The Human Body on Ahdio Show # 11.

I love the shit out of that remix nod although it's a bit less techno-ish than the others.
