Next estate releases? Surely time to focus on newer material?

Now that SOTT is on its way & Parade to follow next year surely the estate should refocus on his latter material? Specifically:

Black is the new Black album

P&M - Paisley Park shows x2 on DVD + Atlanta final shows audio

Various completed tracks on a comilation audio - there were some stellar recordings floating around + he was working on the new MPLS sound [lots of orchestration etc]

3rd eye girl - unreleased tracks, rehearsals etc - a tonne of material exists.

3rd eye girl - live DVD - where do you begin ! - so much stellar material.

An endless list in fact! too much material & too little time!

Beyond that there's the:

NPG 93-95 material

Musicology & 3121 era

Jesus I can't cope!

Thoughts?

I'd personally love to hear it all, but I guess they are zeroing in on the more lucrative stuff to make a buck to keep going, so i doubt we'll get anything 'new' for a while yet. I believe they will continue to mine the 'early' albums with deluxe sets as long as they can, with the occasional Originals or single disk releases in between. I'd love them to release a stand alone album that Prince had ready to go; Welcome 2 America might be a good choice with everyhting that's going on or Black is the New Black would also fit the contemporray narrative - although they are political sounding records that they may feel would marginalise the audience? It's gonna be an interesting next decade 2021-2030 for sure!

I think it wouldn't be a bad strategy to intersperse the expansive super deluxe editions with shorter, snappier collections of newer material, whether they be unreleased albums or live shows like Piano and a Microphone 2016. I liked the model of 2019 in which we got Originals, the 1999 Super Deluxe along with surprises like the demo of "I Feel for You". Doing something like that with a WB Super Deluxe and a smaller post-WB release would be nice.

Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

Yes, Black is the new Black is top of my list of what I want released. Been wanting someone from Podcast juise or anyone else for that matter to ask about this project if they interview Howe or anyone from the estate. Even if they think its not worth a big release then release it for download only.

This album is supposed to be fully instrumental or so (Jazz/Funk fusion)....???.....not a full Prince vocals Album ???

Any confirmed info on it ???

I'm happy we're getting the earlier stuff first. I became a collector and fan in 1984 and this is the era that I love most. He was also at the peak of popularity in the mainstream. Makes business sense to concentrate on the 80's stuff right now. Don't get me wrong, I would snatch up anything released but let's start from the earlier years.

Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

I love all that is being released but I do think it is a disservice to him by not putting anything out from his last years. I still say Phase 2 was a very very strong album and from what i've heard from Michael B Nelson and engineers, he was doing some very amazing stuff at the end of his career.

For an artist that never looked back, it seems wrong to totally ignore his more recent work.

I absolutely want to hear Black is the New Black. Princevault says that at least nine tracks were worked on for it, and one of them was Free Urself, which pretty much everyone here either likes or loves (what's more, when it first came out we had one of the post positive threads I've ever seen on the Org: https://prince.org/msg/7/...amp;pg=1). So yes, a BITNB release would be great, especially if it had notes by or interviews with the people involved.

Plectrumelectrum has never really grabbed me, barring a couple of songs, but I did like how passionate Prince seemed about the project and how much he seemed to enjoy working with 3rdEyeGirl at the time. I reckon a 3rdEyeGirl compilation of live recordings would be cool.

Plectrumelectrum was so disappointing. Some really weak stuff on that joint. It started off so promising, too.

Co-sign on Black is the New Black. Would love to hear that.

I would also like to hear a comprehensive collection of the stuff he released to the NPGMC.

Say what you will about Plectrum but...Tic Tac Toe is my SHIT! I'd love a Prince vocals only version of that! I did like FixUrLifeUp and the title track instrumental too!

What I'd really like is A COPY OF THE UNDERTAKER ON Compact Disc! Estate? Work on that!

I had completely forgotten about TicTacToe fallinluv music. Hook is kinda rude n the lyrics don't make a whole lotta sense (to me at least), but the melody n music, my gawd :pregnant:. I really enjoyed Plectrum myself shrug.

Really? You don't at least like the instrumentation?! The music's killer, like a dreamstate!

What's next? You don't like 'Let's Go Crazy'?

Would love to see a boxed set of the 3 NPG albums with a boatload of bonus material.
Let's start exploring the 90's.

Originals 2 would be my guess, if we don't already get that right after SOTT.

It's actually mind boggling to even comprehend how much can be released. Now thinking of how exceptional Deliverance / Man Opera EP was & wonder how mcuh other material from that period is floating around.

I´d love to see some unreleased songs from 1996-2016 because he was much more careful regarding leaked recordings after 1996 so I wonder what songs were recorded that we don´t know about.

Yea Plectrumelectrum is really awful but I do believe there's much better early configurations of the album. Hopefully the estate will release that at some point.

What'll be next from Legacy guys at Sony? Would really like a physical release of the various NPG music club releases, I know they won't have the wherewithall to get the stuff that never made it to Chocolate Invasion or The Slaughterhouse but I'll take them as it is.

I hope that the strategy of focussing on the big albums first and opening up the music and videos to streaming services will build the fan base. That will make releasing later vault tracks with decent marketing more viable.

I'm half-expecting a Crystal Ball/The Truth/Kamasutra round next, with the latter being added to streaming services for the first time like Versace was.

Then, a D&P/Love Symbol/Come round of Legacy releases in early/mid '21. I suspect they'll want to get more of the commercial 'big hitters' out of the way before they go back to the more obscure early 2000s stuff, but we'll see.

Black is the new Black?

Did they locate that tape yet or got it lost while moving to Iron Mountain?

It should be in digital format, I guess.

So an easy mastering away from release.

(no restoration, transfer, etc)

.

And 'his final album' would make it sell a bit....

Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

More than happy for them to slot newer material in the Originals/Piano & Microphone slot, but something from the 21st century taking the place of a SDE from the golden era would be a travesty.
