Er, except if the release date is changed to September 2040, and the price is now $1000.

Perhaps All My Dreams and Teacher, Teacher will be the two removed? They're more Parade outtakes than SOTT, no? I could never take the place of your man might be the wrong era but at least there's a justification for including an earlier version.

This set, all told, is really as good as it could ever be. It's the biggest release of Prince material, released or otherwise, ever to hit the market in one go. Glorious. Take my money. I don't even mind the remix in place of something else.

If the film or video or whatever wasn’t usable in 1987, it damn sure wouldn’t be in 2020.

What are everyone's thoughts on what the preview single will be to accompany the official press realease? They ususally release one song at press release.
My pick is either EMOTIONAL PUMP or EVERYBODY WANT WHAT THEY DON'T GOT.
Both are very commerical and poppy or funky sounding tracks that would make a good first impression on new listeners. I think EMOTIONAL PUMP would be the smartest choice personally. Thoughts?

. That used to be the narrative. From interviews with many of the people involved with the film, it seems now that, while the film was a bit dark at times (for which there are many technologies now to make that less of a problem), there was a lack of close ups (although the show in Belgium was filmed especially for close ups) and as Prince started re-shooting some of the parts, he had more ideas and wanted to create more of a narrative for which parts of the performances had to be adjusted. This led to more and more footage being re-shot and led to the SOTT movie, which is more of an abstract theater show than a registration of a Prince concert. . Which means... yes, it is entirely possible to create an actual concert video of the footage that was shot. And since it was film, it could be scanned at 4k or 8k and with all the latest techniques, I am sure they could even add some close ups (although digital zoom is awful, but if they scan at 8k, there's quite some leeway before it gets bad) and make it look good. For me, that's a wish that I think simply won't come true...
. quite the opposite.. See also the blu-rays of movies from more than 50 years ago. Take the analog film and scan at high resolution. And then you have all these digital tools at your disposal!

So, do we have any idea as to the physical shape of the CD version of the SDE? Is it going to be a box like "1999"? Or a bigger box, like the Smashing Pumpkins' "Mellon Collie" SDE from several years ago? Or a weird non-standard thing like the "Rave" SDE? . Not that it really matters, as I don't have my music stored on shelves anymore. But the OCD collector in me would like some sort of standard design for the Prince SDE catalog.

I agree Emotional Pump is a quality track that has that great funk pop vibe. My own choice would be Cosmic Day as I've longed to hear the full version. I think they might go with a live track or Power Fantastic. Can I Play with u might also get the attention of Miles and Jazz fans.

An added wrinkle. I pre-ordered both sets yesterday on Amazon before it was removed. At that time, the price was clearly listed on both, with a pre-order "guarantee" on price (stating it could only go down, not up). That said, wondering how Amazon handle existing orders if the cost in fact changes and the sets are now at a higher price point? Surely they'd have to honor the initial pre-order price for Prime members...no?

strange that they'd let Cosmic Day stay in the collection with all those rape references towards the end.. I bet that's one of the two things. It should be removed. Paisley Park is in your heart - Love Is Here!

I wonder if some traders that have some of the holy grail tracks will release them as they will have little value once this gets released!

If recent release history is an accurate predictor, I’d say ICNTTPOYM demo or Power Fantastic. Personally, I would like to see Walkin’ In Glory, with a video dedicated to the current civil rights movement. "That's when stars collide. Tbh, I can't stand Emotional Pump. Feels like a precursor to the weaker stuff he recorded in 1988-1991, tbh. I think we deserve something glorious that we haven't heard in release quality like Strange Relationship or Rebirth or even The Ball (which has a similar fun party vibe as Holly Rock, which also was a video single).

Different versions of Sexual Suicide and Crystal Ball (I think?) as well. Ultimately I think we'd need a leak similar to the Crystal Ball album tape from a few years back to see what versions, edits etc. were used. It's gonna bug me that the Wendy Interlude isn't released though!
