Really enjoyed the recent photo books by Randee St Nicholas, Afshin Shahidi, and Steve Parke. Found the Allen Beaulieu book ("Prince - Before the Rain") a bit disappointing as it's very repetitive.

Prince's book is obviously a must, although frustrating that he managed to write so little, because what there is of it is fascinating. Mayte's book is also great.

Per Nilsen's books are great, such as Dancemusicsexromance. Also enjoyed the Alex Hahn books.

Duane Tudahl's book about the Purple Rain sessions is essential.

Enjoyed the book by Toure, but some people hated it.

From my shelf, the ones I enjoyed:

"Posessed" by Alex Hahn

"Dancemusicsexromance" by Per Nilsen

"Prince - Inside the Music and the Masks" by Ronin Ro

"Prince" by Dave Hill

"I Would Die 4U" by Toure

"Prince - Imp of the Perverse" by Barney Hoskyns

"My Life with Prince - The Most Beautiful" by Mayte Garcia

"Prince - Chaos, Disorder and Revolution" by Jason Draper

"Prince and the Purple Rain Sessions" by Duane Tudahl

"Let's Go Crazy" by Alan Light

"My Time with Prince" by Dez Dickerson

Didn't enjoy:

"Prince" by Matt Thorne

"This Thing Called Life" by Joseph Vogel

"Dig If You Will The Picture" by Ben Greenman

There are others I've read and forgotten, and others I never bothered with, but these are the ones on my shelf.

Good luck finding Nilsen's book. I've seen some copies going for over $120 because it is not in print anymore.

"You know, this is funky but I wish he'd play like he used to, old scragglyhead son of a...*smack* OOH!"

Possessed by Hahn is a hit piece done in retaliation for Prince suing Uptown and Hahn trying to recoup expenses.

.

Utter nonsense.

.

This ridiculous notion that Prince books are such a goldmine...

When the author trolls Prince.org for information the source and book is tainted.

I've already got it, and "Prince - A Documentary by Per Nilsen", and also "The Vault" - forgot to mention those two in the list though.

Also missed off the list:"On Time" by Morris Day (didn't like it), "The Rise of Prince" by Alex Hahn (enjoyed it), and "Moments - Remembering Prince" by Maryloux Badeaux (dire).

ForceofNature

Duane Tudahl's book is my favorite of all time so far. For me this book's presentation of the era is exactly the type of Prince book I have always wanted, where it is based all around the recording sessions and tour dates. Getting super in-depth with the construction of the songs and seeing how they were recoreded, when, the process of tracking and overdubbing and revisiting songs, the edits, etc.

Reading the book in tandem with listening to each of those songs once you get to their recording session date, is a ton of fun. And I bet his upcoming book about Parade/SOTT will make the "best of" lists just as easily

I've always sorta giggled that he was flipping everyone off in that pic. Not purposely, but it happened nonetheless. "Here's what I think about yo book, PER. Per, ain't that a bitch?" haha

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

By 'trolling' you mean 'asking'.

Yet, how many times when the estate put together a release do we hear 'they should have asked real fans on the org'?
