Hopefully Sony will re-release Crystal Ball in the not too distant future. There seems to be a general consensus that their Legacy releases have improved sound, so there is some hope at least that these songs will finally be available without the brickwalling.

I think you are right, but its kind of funny that we are looking forward to a re-release turing DOWN the volume. lol

lol More likely "oh we don't have to tweak this one"

Everyone keeps referencing another "Originals" set as a possibility. Has there been any real talk about additional volumes or is it simply speculation? I don't remember hearing about anything outside of the first set, thus me asking about it here...

I'm sure Michael Howe mentioned a probable follow up in an interview.

The first one was widely well received and performed reasonably well commercially so another volume would make sense.

Therefore tracks like 101, Come Home etc could be left off with those releases in my mind. Maybe Jerk Out is on volume 2 hence it's no show on 1999 deluxe.

Howe also mentioned that they compiled a list of possible tracks for Originals. So it isn't hard to imagine that they also pulled the other songs at the same time. Making a Vol. 2 or more of Originals a certainty.

.

Except their CD/DVD releases are exactly the same as the existing ones. Which makes sense because they'd simply need to make a digital copy of an existing disk. The LPs are new masters because a) the albums were never released on vinyl or b) PP did not store the original LP masters and thus new ones had to be created.

Hang on. Isn't that the 12" mix that leaked a few years back. The one on Blast 3? Oh, I hope that makes the cut. That's going to get some serious playlist action if it's the case.

If this is on the set, here’s a quote from BartVanHemelen about it:
‘Great frikking outtake. Pisses all over Prince's output of the past 15+ years from great height. Astonishing that such great quality outtakes are still "out there".’

Are you asking who Shep Pettibone is? Shep is a well known producer and mixer. He's been around since, at least, remixing and producing Madonna songs in the late 80s and early 90s. He also remixed "Hot Thing" on the "I Could Never Take the Place Of Your Man" single. I actually love that mix.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I hope that material from external mixers, like Shep Pettibone, will not make the grade. I want Prince stuff, not the horrible mixes that others made. Those hot thing mixes are bad, in fact, almost every external mix has been between bad and atrocious. Give us the multitracks and let us make our own mixes, they can only be better.

Yeah was never a big remix guy unless it was done by the artist themselves although I really dig Kruder & Dorfmeisters "Nothing Really Matters" Madonna remix.

That aren't right"

"A sophisticated mass-produced cacophony of no-win situations that aren't right." thumbs up!

What does that mean?

Another vote here for no remixes on the Vault discs unless it's a Prince extended version.

Imagine no Cosmic Day but a Shep Mix of Strange Relationship. That would be criminal.

This is probably not worth posting, but I've chosen to dive down this rabbit hole and see if the number of heart emojis and their spacing can tell us anything. I agree that "Wally" seems a sure candidate for the text you mention here.

In the previous paragraph, there are a number of redacted words, presumably song titles. I've gone through a list of recordings by Prince in late 1985 and all of 1986 to try to match the character lengths. Here are my best guesses:

"♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥": "Funny Love" or "Movie Star". Or could it be "Coco(a) Boys"?
"♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥": "Cosmic Day" is the only one that fits.
"♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥": "Walkin' in Glory" is the only one that fits.
"♥ ♥♥♥♥ ♥ ♥♥♥" given in due time to ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥: I'm lost here. The implication is that this was given to another artist. I can find neither a song nor an artist that matches the number of characters. The only thing that is remotely possible, but unlikely due to spacing and spelling, could be "Telepathy" given to Debora(h) Allen. Most likely "I Need a Man" given to Bonnie Raitt

There are a few other heart emojis that aren't surrounded by quotes, but I don't know if these are song titles or not. Looking at the number of hearts does not align with any songs I have considered.

Again, probably not worth posting, but we'll see.

Write all of the highlighted down, rumour collectors!

I never liked the 12" mix of Hot Thing either, although I have a DJ friend in Miami who swears by it.

Agree that most outside producers don't mesh with Prince - I'm a fan of Shep Pettibone's work, but even his Glam Slam remix was just OK. That said, I do like the house mix of Thieves In Temple a lot. I think that was Junior Vasquez?

It's my best guess that the ICNTTPOYM remix is by Pettibone, but it doesn't bear any of the hallmarks of his '87, '88 sound. He had a distinctive snare that seemed to pop up in most of his remixes of the time. Compare Madonna's "Vogue", a Pettibone production, with his remix of Janet's "Escapade". They're practically the same song, and you wouldn't say that about the album version of Escapade.

But I digress. My real question is what will Pettibone's remix of Strange Relationship sound like??

Keep your headphones on.

I kind of like the "Hot Thing" mix... love the "Sugar Walls" quote. But I am mostly not into the mixes by others... *"the Future" "Elecetrri Chair" "Pop life" "Soft and Wet" etc... But most of that may be that I know he did not do them...

I don't know... The Soft and Wet disco mix is subtly different - I like the extra synth line that's turned up in the mix in that one. To each their own though.

that it is mostly an instrumental with some vocalizations but not much if anything in the way of lyrics.

Hey, wait a minute! "♥ ♥♥♥♥ ♥ ♥♥♥" given in due time to ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥ could totally be "I Need a Man" given to Bonnie Raitt, perhaps?

I think the clue is in the wording ‘given in due time’. Wasn't the Bonnie Raitt album on which I Need A Man appeared Nick of Time?
