Are you happy that the Sony deal doesn't include movie soundtracks? Hopefully, this will mean something like 1999 (title track) will take over any song from Purple Rain in terms of popularity, maybe through TV ads and budget CD compilations, since Sony like to license their content to them.

Sony will do a better job with the deluxe sets. So no, I wish they had it all!

Well... personally, because of how Sony has acted over the years (trying to hack people's computers by installing a root kit to stop audio cd ripping, but many more examples like it), I will not buy anything from Sony ever again. . However, I feel that all Prince's output (music, movies, live, rehearsal, books, clothes, instruments, vault, anything) should be licensed to one entity, it's the only way to not let rights issues stand in the way of new releases, in whatever shape or form. Sadly, this is not the case. Paisley Park is in your heart - Love Is Here!

I would say "1999" already exceeds 7/9ths of Purple Rain in popularity anyway, as far as the US is concerned. The only songs that are more popular are "When Doves Cry" and the title track... "Let's Go Crazy" is maybe equivalent, but that's a semi-recent change of popular order... "1999" is probably still his #3 or #4 biggest song period, possibly flip-flopped with "Kiss". Honest question: why does anyone care about this?

I mean, I don't care. OP is I think in Australia and posted a lot of Aussie radio play stats in the past, maybe people who listen to radio care.... That being said if one has the albums I don't see why one would care about hearing Prince on the radio, but. that Sirius-XM Prince channel thread was popular enough so.... I really don't know.
