If you had to rank Prince's albums in order from best to worst? Not trying to bash any album...am just curious to hear everyone's opinions...

There's no way I could put them in any order that I would be able to stick to. Some days I think "album X" is better than "album y" and the next day I could think the opposite. It's impossible to rank all his albums that way. The best I can do is this;
My favourite Prince albums (in no particular order) Controversy Dirty Mind 1999 Purple Rain Sign O The Times 3121 HitnRun Phase 2 Prince Prince albums I don't like (in no particular order) HitnRun Phase 1 Love Symbol Diamonds and Pearls The Rainbow Children Then the rest are all in the middle. But even on the albums I don't like, there is at least one or two songs on each that I do like. [Edited 5/21/20 14:59pm]

Hi everyone.
Here's a Tier Maker list I made a few months ago. It may help you with ranking Prince's albums. Please give it a try...

Alright, I'll give it a go:
Lovesexy Parade Sign O' the Times Purple Rain 1999 Around the World In a Day Controversy Dirty Mind Black Album Musicology 3121 Art Official Age HitNRun 2 Gold Experience Lotusflower 20Ten For You Very few 90s albums on my list, it was getting harder and harder to enjoy his albums back then, they were all disappointing after those stunning 1980s albums, but still, each one had a few great songs, just enough to keep me interested and he made a good comeback in the 2000s after he toned down the preaching and the pretentious pseudo jazz that ruined Rainbow Children, which would be at the bottom of my list even though there's some very skilfull musicians working on it. [Edited 5/22/20 10:24am] If you take any of this seriously, you're a bigger fool than I am.

Top Faves i can think of
Controversy 1999 SOTT Gold Experience Parade Dirty Mind and ig Purple Rain is good too I also love Art Official Age Hit n Run phase one, I’ll admit I hated on this. But my taste evolved. The mixing sucks but I love the production overall. Its fire. This Could B Us is a highlight. I even like Million $ Show. A lot of people think its weak sauce. I love it. Love Judith!! I don’t think i ever even tried Kamasutra. In 2015 when I was lucky to find a $40 Crystal Ball on Amazon (which came in GREAT condition! Played well!) it was the 4 disc version with The Truth. But now Kamasutra has been made available on streaming services and i still haven’t played it. What album do i really not like? Planet Earth is booorrrrring. Trash album. Only a couple songs i like. I like most songs on MPLSound except for the first track sucks. I could never get with Chaos & Disorder after I Like It There. But that makes sense since it was a contractual obligation thingy. Rave is kinda overrated in some ways [Edited 5/22/20 13:12pm]

16 Albums are elite in my opinion : 1. Rainbow Children 2. SOTT 3. 1999 4. Gold 5. Purple Rain 6. 3121 7. Dirty Mind 8. Art Official Age 9. Musicology 10. Controversy 11. Prince 12. Around the World in a Day 13. Parade 14. Exodus 15. 8 (Madhouse) 16. Emancipation : There are several other good ones, but they have some fatal flaws, i.e., Tony M on Symbol and Diamonds & Pearls) : There are several albums that would be near the bottom of the list, but I'm not sure it if fair to compare those albums with regular releases because they were either experiemental or not meant to be widely released. Thsoe would be : Slaughterhouse (internet) Chocolate Invasion (internet) Plectrum (released with the excellent AOA, so not really meant to be a Prince release) The Vault (he wasn't trying to release his best work here) : I think his worst commercial releases are: 1. Batman (there are some good songs on here, but not much great on it) 2. Phase I (same criticism, there are some good songs, but not much great) 3. NewPowerSoul (Some very good songs on here, but also some of his worst work, i.e., PushitUp) 4. Graffiti Bridge (This used to be among my favorite albusm, but it has not aged well. There are some great songs on here, but some of his worst work is on this album, i.e., Tick Tick Bang)

I personally feel the need to rank only after breaking down the discography into sections/eras. “By Decade” works pretty well. Or “Warner Era” and “Post-Warner Era.” . So many of the Post-Warner albums are so subpar there is little point in comparing - for instance - a total bottom-scraper like Musicology with an ace like Lovesexy. 5 all-time favourites would be approx (yeah, I'm weird, lol): The Gold Experience Purple Rain Chaos and Disorder Come Crystal Ball (1998) I'll exclude the obvious jazzy/experimental projects from any consideration of 'worst', as I don't listen to them enough to make for a fair judgement. So I'll probably say for a bottom five, Rave Un2, Rave In2, NPS, Planet Earth and Lotusflow3r.

1. Parade (the one I listen to most) 2. Purple Rain (too obvious to list this first) 3. SOTT (this is technically #1. but it's complicated) 4. Lovesexy (making the CD one track forced this all deep down into my brain) 5. Around the World in a Day (the one that really got me into Prince) 6. 1999 (some of the songs are a little too long. fight me!) 7. Graffiti Bridge (sure there are a few slices of cheese, but criminally underrated IMO) 8. The Black Album (estate, if you're listening, please rerelease in a package with Lovesexy) 9. Chaos & Disorder (what a contract fulfiller! just rocks! also fun to work out to) 10. Art Official Age (i listen to this a lot as background music at work. that's gotta count for something) 11. Dirty Mind (almost as short as he is. for sure, it's the best of the early falsetto albums. but the falsetto can wear thin) 12. Diamonds & Pearls (enough good songs to get by. not really a Tony fan. but not a hater). 13. The Vault: Old Friends 4 Sale (just cuz it's a contract fulfiller doesn't mean it's not a jazzy little gem) 14. Prince (the second best album of the all-falsetto, all-the-time era) 15. 3121 (i used to listen to this a fair bit as bg music. so it's pretty good, right?) 16. Controversy (only half of this tickles my fancy. transitional) 17. Love Symbol (he started to lose the plot here, literally. and i'm losing interest in ranking the rest)
