What do you think Prince would say if he knew his Vault Material was Moved to CA? Do you think he would be Mad as Hell or wouldn't Give a Damn or somewhere in the Middle?

The city hall I work has hired Iron Mountain in the past a few times. They have good rep.
"You know, this is funky but I wish he'd play like he used to, old scragglyhead son of a...*smack* OOH!"

Honestly, I have no idea or thought about what Prince would or would not say about his vault material being moved if he knew, because as we all know, he's dead, and it's just all for naught to even speculate about it, because that's something that we will never know.

Not the first time some of his masters were kept in California. Don't think California would be the issue, but he might have opinions of Iron Mountain, or hiring someone else to do the preservation.

he wouldn't say anything about it, he'd write a shit hot track about it, because you know and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

He could have prevented it by A) writing a will, or B) taking better care of his vault so that moving his material to a better storage environment wasn't necessary. Just saying.

And there are several locations in CA. One article says they are in LA location.... Anyone know if this correct? And by Google the place doesn't look like much, maybe worse than the vault Or does Google have it wrong...? [Edited 5/14/20 14:32pm]

[Edited 5/14/20 14:32pm] I thought Iron Mountain was an actual mountain with the perfect climate for preservation. Maybe I'm wrong and it was just a dream. klick

He is dead, so he can't say anything. If he were alive, it wouldn't have been moved there. The whole question makes no sense, sorry.

Well, if it is a better place to save his precious music (which were his children), he would probably say that's good. As much as he wanted to keep it all in the basement vault, I imagine it was not the best location (moisture problems, no matter where U live) now that he has passed.
I pray they will preserve it for all generations to come, so the world will always have it. I wish U Heaven....................

Sure. Nothing could go wrong on the San Andreas fault line.

A purpose built, climate controlled facility or a damp basement, stacked in cardboard boxes. Hmmmmm, tough one. . . [Edited 5/18/20 7:04am]

His material could not be in a better facility than Iron Mountain.

I do like your posts in general Astasheiks but I have to agree with ludwig who posted earlier. That's its a weird question. Prince, if alive, would never have let this happen in the first place. His music was his life and he would have made it so the master recordings were in Paisley Park. Even in an outdated vault that could have used some improvements to turn into a modern facility.

He's referring to basic voice + single instrument demo type recordings like Piano & Microphone, not aesthetic tape speed multitracking experimentation. The proper speed would/should be the proper tuning/pitch in those instances, the errors occur because tape speed gets effected when you use a different machine for playback than what machine was used for recording. . Ah yes, the same man who left master tapes all over the place. Real careful dude. Didn't even bother to get the climate system of his vault repaired. Had water leak on unreplacable items. Oh, and remember how several of PP's expensive recording studios were out of commision because they'd fallen in disrepair? .
. Susan Rogers started the vault because Prince left tapes all over the place. . Which he continue to do later on. Rumor is at least one master tapes is in the hands of collectors. . © Bart Van Hemelen

I'm thinking he may not have liked it, simply because he had no say in it. He seem to prefer everything close and dear to him in his city Minneapolis.

I think he cared more about the tapes being close to his studio, so he could take a tape and work on whatever song was on it. Not sure about the last years, but I think he never moved to a completely digital way of recording. If he did, I'm sure he would have appreciated a good digital multitrack transfer to easily pull up any song in his vault and work on it, without needing an assistant or engineer to do it and then find out the tape was a bit wonky. . So, he wouldn't have liked it if it interfered in his recording. As it is, if there is such a thing as heaven and from it you can see the goings on on earth, I don't think he'll mind. Or at least, it'll be a much smaller problem than what's going on with the estate and the fighting over who he may have liked the best at any moment. Paisley Park is in your heart - Love Is Here!

Exactly, they just flip flop and make arguments they contradict with the next release. "Maintain artistic intent---now let's pile on some reverb that was never the artist's intent" to "'personal taste' as a guide, when even the most impersonal taste could tell the tapes sounded flat out wrong".
