As someone who has never been a fan of 90's Prince, Id like to spend some time with it as I seem to have a little time and desire right now to revisit the live shows from this era and give it a second look

I know and love the live shows from 80's and 2000's , but my bias for the 90's have given me a blind spot for it.

Can aficionados from this era guide me to what you consider to be the best or your favorite shows from that era so I can hunt them down and we can discuss them.

Start by watching the acoustic rendition of Thieves In The Temple from 1992 and come back and tell me he wasn't as good as in 1988. That performance sealed the deal for me as the most talented musician of our time. It's from the Diamonds And Pearls tour in London Earls Court 1992.

I was at a Diamonds and Pearls show back in the day here in the US. I kinda remember it was good but haven't revisited it.
I'll look it up and check it out!

i 2nd that, so freaking good. Another gem is the rendition he did on the Piano & Microphone tour.

The 1st show that springs to mind from the 90's is the 93 Act II tour stop in Germany for me, scorching..

Mostly due to his name change, fight with WB, and lack of his wanting to do any promotion for WB. He also had a knack for making the wrong song choice when he did promote. That embarrasing performance/lip sync of TMBGITW on the World Music Awards, the lackluster effort on Letterman w/ slave on his face of Dinner W/ Delores comes to mind.

100%. I always say I turned from a Prince fan to a Prince fanatic once I saw him live.

I can relate to this. I am finding a lot of that 90's era aged well. There are some classic songs I kind of blocked out are from that period.

There's still a lot of it that feels more intended for an international audience or that doesn't hit the hallmarks of what I consider Prince, mainly because of production, or some new jack beat that gets boring.... but there's some gems. The live shows were too sax heavy for my taste too.

I think the DNA 1993 after show is considered a classic. Try that one. I don't love most of the song selection, and "When you were mine" sounds like it's being performed with the SNL Live band, but I think it's a good example of how some good material just got lost in the production/arrangements.

Yeah and I've been distracted from listening to the ones I have as I keep finding more.

Whenever someone decides to put out live packages of his live shows, it's going to a lot of work just deciding what to leave out.

it will be worth it though.

One the positive things this current situation with self isolation, is I get plenty of time to really clean the house while shaking my ass listening "new to me" Prince music.

I haven't heard as many 90s shows as those from other decades, but one that I really enjoy that hasn't been mentioned in the Gold Tour in Tokyo. It was good to hear so many of the wonderful songs from Gold in concert.

Well that era in general. He played a version of Peach before it was released. Whatever the name of that tour.

i looked in up on Princevault and it seems it was the Act 1 tour. It was in LA at the old Universal Amphitheatre.
And since we had pretty bad seats possibly near speakers the sound was crazy loud. I remember not enjoying the concert and just wanting to go home

So tracked down the Act 1 and 2 tour becasue I barely remember it other than hearing Peach for the first time and loving it and thinking it was better than the studio version released later that year. And indeed the live version sounds amazing.
