Just to have an idea :

Radiohead, opened up all their official albums/music on youtube.

Sure they produced less body of work like Prince did.

Plus when someone 'stole' their demos of the 'OK Computer' album, they release the entire 18 hours (eighteen hours!) of demo's & music available for everyone.

Can't get enough of it.

Of course, Radiohead still is 'there' and makes music.

Which is not the case with Prince and the bills that need to be payed.

No. If you're speaking about 1999 and PR in particular, it helps that there's multiple versions of each. You got the 2-disc releases for the casual, and then you have the crazy-insane-insane-crazy deluxe editions for lunatics like us. If anything, these (and the many others to follow) are way overdue, so keep them coming!

As for the Sony/Legacy stuff, most of those are just the albums that never stayed in print since more times than not P did one and done's with the record companies in charge of the distribution. Those records deserve to be heard too, so good on Legacy for covering that.

As I'm getting older, I think they should release it faster.

Clearly they need to get what they can now while the audience is still alive and interested and the market still has a place for physical media.

If there were a ton of new and casual fans I might agree with you. But there's not. Most (not all, but most) of the people buying this stuff are hardcore fans.

We're a bit older now, which means a.) we don't have much time left to buy this stuff, and b.) some of us have a bit more disposable income than we did in our younger days and we'll happily hand over to the estate.

Just a the FED (private bank!) cannot stop QE and cannot raise interest rates anymore (!), the 'Estate' construct has to generate money due to the leeching lawyer types and assorted similar figures.

So releasing stuff can be a way to generate income.

I love all the shit thats constantly coming out, but dont expect us married father of three to go out and buy everything thats released.

I can only afford to pick and choose which ones I really need (or want). But if I was single and irresponsible, I'd be going NUTS!!!!!!!!!

I'm in a similar position, honestly. If I was still in my early 2010s financial position, I'd have been nabbing everything put out straight away, lol.

There are still a few of the earlier Legacy reissues that I'd like to get, but I already have the ones that most mattered to me (and am waiting patiently for more of the early-mid '90s stuff to be reissued in, presumably, 2021).

Yeah it's pretty different. Radiohead already made enough money off Ok Computer to support their famiies for a lifetime, and allow them to work on other projects and do things like give music away at a pay what you wish rate.

Prince knew about Radiohead, and chose to give some music away (or let other people profit who he couldn't have expected would write him big checks). We also know he used to make the tapes of unreleased songs.

But then other times he was guarded about his work, treating it all as masterpieces a cruel greedy world didn't deserve.

The Estate did put up Originals and a lot of content on Youtube. I kind of wonder if Graceland could have happened in the age f the internet.

It's worth mentioning that the vinyl remaster of OK Computer sounds phenomenal. One of the best remaster jobs I've heard from a major artist.

I must admit that Ive been spoilt when it comes to remasters. The latest Beatles remasters have been "phenomenal" as you put it.

Which is why Ive found the Prince remasters such a huge let down.
