The Prince Estate and Legacy Recordings are pleased to announce the reissue of Prince's 2001 album The Rainbow Children and the box set Up All Nite with Prince, which includes the One Nite Alone... trilogy of releases.

The early 2000s were an intriguing and fertile time in Prince's career. In 2001, Prince released the concept album The Rainbow Children in the midst of an evolution of his spirituality and social consciousness. The next year, he released his 25th studio album, One Nite Alone..., an intimate and mostly solo piano album recorded at Paisley Park, and embarked on the One Nite Alone... Tour with his powerhouse NPG.

On Friday, April 17, The Rainbow Children will be available on CD for the first time in decades, and as a crystal-clear double LP with a limited-edition custom rainbow slipmat.

With the new 5-disc box set Up All Night with Prince, fans will have the opportunity to experience Prince in his many forms—from performing alone in the studio to partying late into the night with his powerhouse live band. Up All Night with Prince includes the studio album One Nite Alone..., plus Prince's first official live album One Nite Alone...Live!, the afterparty compilation One Nite Alone... The Aftershow: It Ain't Over!, and a DVD of Prince Live at The Aladdin Las Vegas.

All three of the One Nite Alone... releases will also be available for the first time on limited-edition purple vinyl.

The Rainbow Children and One Nite Alone... reissues will be released April 17 by Sony's Legacy Recordings. Preorder yours now: https://Prince.lnk.to/2001-2002

If this is confirmed then this is fantastic news. I'm looking forward to adding an official CD to my collection. My first from Sony Legacy. I may consider the vinyl as well.

So glad I paid over a hundred bucks for the CD. rolleyes (Okay, I've had it for at least 10 years - I'm not really complaining.)

This is one I'd definitely like to have on vinyl.

This is one of the least listened-to Prince eras for me, but even *I'm* getting excited at the thought of seeing this one with the big LP-size artwork. Feck it, maybe I should get a copy despite not having even been looking out for this one. Sorry, bank manager. lol

I have two original CDs already but I think it´s a great idea to re-release this so that those who don´t own it don´t have to pay such absurd sums on Ebay.

Then again, those who paid a lot for their copy or who were thinking of selling their original CD for a huge profit probably won´t like this news. wink

There's suddenly a glut of ONA cds and The Rainbow Children vinyl appearing for sale on eBay for high prices. Obviously hoping hadn't seen the news lol

Well, we all have opinions. Mine is that The Truth is among his best albums and One Nite Alone is my absolute least favorite Prince album ever.

After years (decades) of my favorite part of his live shows being the piano medleys, the piano studio album was a major letdown for me.

The Piano & Microphone tour made up for it though. That's the kind of stuff I was expecting when ONA was announced. Even the Piano & Microphone 83 album is better than this one.

In my not-so-humble opinion, of course... wink

I agree.

I mean, I like the ONA piano album but it just didn´t live up to my expectations and the songs on it are , in my opinion, not very memorable, and I much prefer the Piano and a Microphone ´83 album. I already had several pressed bootleg CDs of it but it was still nice to have it as a legit release in slightly better quality. I also prefer that short but sweet Sunset Studio piano rehearsal over ONA piano.

It is not really a bad album per se but the songs are just not that memorable and a bit meandering, IMO.

But it is NOT my least favorite Prince album....that would be HitNRun Phase 1. ONA piano is just not as good as it could´ve been.

This is a pity as I didn't want to buy the ONA Live box set again. Still, if I must.

The pictures of the set look as nice as the Rave set, so once again I don't need any of it but will still buy it. Niiiiice set.

Got this on MP3 when I was in NPGMC. It's one of the only albums of his that I don't own on CD. If this was being reissued on CD I'd buy it to fill that gap, but really not interested in the vinyl. Not one of his best albums for me, but I'd still like it on CD to fill that space. Such a shame if it's vinyl only.

Are they all (obviously) remastered ?

Absolutely not.
It s even doubtful they have the master tapes ( just like for Versace Experience, it sounds like they only transferred an audio cassette to a CD).
.
By the way, do you really think an album released in the 2000's has to be remastered? Of course not.

You can find the CD on the second-hand market. (That's how I purchased mine.) And with this new release, it is possible the price will come down a bit on the CD. I paid over $100US for mine - but that was the going rate 10 years ago.

I do plan on plumping for the vinyl, though. Just seems like a fitting format for an album that has such an intimate sound. I can't wait to drop the needle on this one.

The CD will be part of the 4CD/DVD set. $39 at Amazon's not bad for that. The original CD is going for much more than that, and, the original 3CD set went for much more than that when it came out new, so that's a good price. Plus, the new set looks niiiice. I have all 5 discs but I'll pick it up at that price.

I bought a few last year. For Musicology & 3121 the vinyl sound MUCH better than than the original releases as they are not brickwalled. The Rave 2CD/DVD set were exactly the same as the originals.

I expect similar with these.

Nah, I'll leave it. I only ever listened to the MP3s of it a handful of times and it never really wowed me. Only wanted the CD for completeness sake, filling a gap in my collection. Not buying a used copy for silly money. Just wish they'd realise that not everybody owns a record player, and some of us still like CDs so we can do things like play them in our cars, etc. It's a no from me.
