CDs were very new and expensive things when I started listening to Prince, so I mostly had the original LPs, EPs and cassettes (remember cassette singles?). Then I rebought everything as CDs later. Now I prefer digital. Not because I'm a zealot or think they're necessarily better audio experiences but because of the accessibility, durability and portability of the format. And they don't take up physical space, which my wife is thankful for! I guess you could say I now collect the music, not the media.

I'm honestly generally a vinyl-first music fan these days, although it helped in Prince's case that I already had digital copies of most of his discography before I started collecting him on vinyl.

Obviously, with so many of the vinyl releases having download codes now, I often don't even have to choose between physical or digital anyway, so vinyl it (normally) is.

Less concerned with vinyl after Diamonds and Pearls or so, I think he intended most of his albums for cd after that so i'll go CD first, maybe vinyl if i come across one for cheap. Both for before that though. Posthumous outtakes I only want on cd.

For me, always CD. Occasionally both, but rarely.

Vinyl was a little bit before my time. I began collecting Prince in the late 90s so CD is my main format of choice, having said that I've bought a little bit of everything Prince related over the years. VHS-Tapes. The Interactive CD-Rom. DVDs. etc.

Even though it's been a few years since I've owned a working turn table I do have a box of records with a small selection favourites, of which there is some Prince stuff . Mainly records I've found in markets and at car boot sales etc. If I find the vinyl version of an album I love out in the wild I'll usually buy it just as a keepsake. It's not like I go out of my way to collect vinyl.

I've not bought any of the Sony Legacy re-issues yet on either CD or Vinyl as all the releases that matter to me I bought the first time around. However, there are a few albums I'm looking forward to where I'll definitely get the CD and I'd seriously consider the vinyl. I think One Nite Alone (Piano) would be a lovely album to own on vinyl. Should Sony choose to release a 6LP set of Crystal Ball ('98) I think that would be an amazing collector's item to. I'd dig a little deeper in my pocket for that one.

It used to be exclusively CD for a long time, because I put a high priority on having something to physically collect. More recently, I've just done gone with digital because it's more convenient for me.

Personally I collect both when available. It's expensive but there are benefits to each format and I like to have the best of both worlds.

Since becoming a fan in 1994, I've bought everything on CD but in the past few years I've turned more to vinyl.

A fellow Prince fan very generously gave me a large portion of his vinyl collection a few years ago (he was making space in his home) including a pristine copy of Come and all the 7" and 12" singles from ATWIAD with a few other rarities.

I've only bought the deluxe vinyl boxsets of P&M1983 and Originals which include a CD copy, but I bought The Versace Experience on vinyl rather than CD as the CDs look a bit cheap. I got 1999 on CD as the vinyl boxset was too expensive.

I've got Parade through to The Vault...OF4S on cassette also along with a few cassette singles.

I tend to stream music when I'm on the go, but yesterday I dug out my NPG Records copies of The Voice and Hey Man...Smell My Finger and listened to them on CD.

The rest of my collection lives on a hardrive.

Started on cassestte and vinyl, then CD only, now I do CD and vinyl.

When I first became a fan in the '80s I'd buy everyone on vinyl. But the '90s I'd transitioned to CDs and got rid of all of my vinyl. I can't remember what I did with it, which is really sad.

Had I kept it, it likely would have been in good shape. I'm generally very good about preserving stuff. Plus, being the '80s I had copied all of the vinyl onto cassette tapes mostly listened to those, which means the vinyls were rarely played.

This is a major regret of mine. I'm not an audiophile, so I don't wish I still had them because I think they would sound better. And it's not so much that they would have monetary value. It's mostly that I think they'd be great collector's items. The artwork, liner notes, etc. are so much nicer than what comes in a CD.

First editon vinyl of everything up to Sign of the Times ( also had cassettes of everything up to controversy). Jumped on the CD bandwagon when it first started and bought everything released on the first go around...still do. I purchased the prince.com purple vinyl "I Feel For You" single but I'm pretty much a pure cd man now.

Almost forgot... I did buy "Originals" and "Piano & Microphone" deluxe editions, I LOVE the larger packaging.

I started buying Prince's albums on vinyl in the 80s and switched to CDs when Warner Bros. stopped releasing vinyl editions in the U.S. (1991). I'm buying both CDs and vinyl now of new material (Piano and a Microphone, The Originals), but refraining from getting any reissues on mismatched purple vinyl.

When I was first getting into Prince I started with cassettes and have all the releases up to "Diamonds & Pearls" on cassette (also have "Kamasutra" and the RSD release of "The Versace Experience" too). I still keep an eye out for anything I don't have when I hit the used record shops, though.

From there I started collecting vinyl (long before he passed away you were able to find used copies of his albums super cheap). While I don't have all of his titles on vinyl I was able to find promo copies of the Self-Titled, "Dirty Mind" (complete with the "Uptown" hype sticker and the "Please Audition Prior To Airplay" sticker - this, along with the "Let's Work" 12" are two of my Prince prized posessions) and "Purple Rain" and the most I paid for any of thiese had to be no more than $5.00.

Anymore now, due to his passing and the insane prices that vinyl goes for now, I pretty much focus on CD's but will grab vinyl whenever I find it at a reasonable price or if something cool comes out "Nothing Compares..." single and the "I Feel For You" purple vinyl singles come to mind.

I need it all. I have him the most on CD. I have a few Records, and I only have Dirty Mind on Cassette. If anyone has 8-Tracks I'll also add those

Has anyone mentioned the sound of the Sign O The Times CD here yet?

SOTT cd sounding bad is true but overblown, I doubt i'll ever have a system good enough to appreciate a remaster.
