But the performances are impeccable, there is great writing to be had all over - to me, "I Hate U" is like taking Marvin Gaye's Here My Dear and giving it a machete.

There are some clunkers on Gold. Sshhh...for instance is boring. The remix of TMBGITW is terrible. What was the point in slaughtering the original track, God only knows (to avoid the plagiarism suit?) Dolphin is an average song. I love We March, but I read very negative reviews here.

Maybe he put it there are an "F-you" to WB for asking the song for album release and fearing that promtion will be driven by TMBGITW, as he owned the masters to the original version and put a different mix (the Monetrux one) instead.

Prince. Every concept Prince ever promoted, every aesthetic, every message is brought to bear on that record in stunning fashion. It is, frankly, a masterpiece. It is also the most tragic record in his catalog because it was overshadowed by drama then and remains as such today. Yet it is still one of his most timeless and brilliant albums to date. VIBE magazine called it his next Sign o the Times and it´s a cool album with great songs butt I disagree abit about the timeless part cuz those NPG operator segues sound dated today.

You're correct. The lustre of The Gold Experience seems to fade more and more every year since it came out, even among Prince fans. Here it used to be taken for granted as his best of the 90s, now anytime someone intimates that it continually incites pages of debate. The proof is in the post count.

Anyway for me personally that record used to be Top 5 material, but to say it aged terribly would be putting it lightly.

All this 'it's aged terribly' or 'should have had different versions of the songs on'... I just don't get it.

I love the outtakes and the earlier versions of the songs, but the versions of Endorphinemachine and others that are on here are stellar, to me. P Control is a fantastic opener, and the album just RIPS from there.

It never lags, it's never dull. The segues are okay. Not the greatest thing about it, but they're just fine. And it build and builds to Billy Jack Bitch, I Hate U and Gold... a fantastic triumvirate of closing songs!

The weakest link for me is We March, which tends towards the cheesy side, but even that is not bad...

It's a brilliant album that hasn't aged a bit, to me. It was exciting then, and it still is now.

And all teh remixes, EPs and outtakes just made this era rich indeed.

Would eat a Super Deluxe Edition whole and it would barely touch the sides as it went down.

I totally agree.The Gold Experience is a top-notch Prince album.These songs are strong and inspired.
