Listening to the top tracks of the charts... I really don't understand music today. Kids hear music very differently I guess.

It would have been nice to have seen a little more promotion from WB.They could have taken one of the stronger tracks and created some kind of video for it.

Hardly surprising when you can’t buy it anywhere. If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it!

I really think they may have made a mistake with this, they should have distributed more copies

A five disc set costing £55 was not going to chart highly, or ever spend multiple weeks in the top ten. What are people really expecting? Did you enjoy it? Great, me too. RIP

Great, me too. - I feel the same way. I couldn't care less about how this did on the charts. It's a great boxed set and I will be enjoying it for many years to come.

Why wud anyone compare a classic box set with the sales of today’s pop music? This set will sell for years...Purple Rain is back on the charts! What was behind the limited stock/shipment of 1999 Deluxe? Outsized sales, WB screwup...both?

This is a set for the purest of Prince fans and those looking to get into Prince. A box set of an album that charted 30 years ago isn't going to chart these days. Enjoy it for what it is and it's for us. I just want them to sell enough to justify more box set for future albums and keep Paisley Park and the Prince train going. __________________________________________________

Because I’m hoping that the Estate and the labels will think that such sprawling reissues will be viable for all the classic period albums. I guess I’m that kid that deferred the chance to have a marshmallow now for the promise of two in 15 minutes. If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it!

The estate is making BANK no matter how it charts. Prince owns the masters, there is alittle promotion going into this, everyone is getting paid with little effort. We will get the deluxe editions for Parade and SOTT, the REAL question is afterwards. [Edited 12/24/19 18:27pm]

Interesting point but prolly because there is so much more Grade A material surrounding SOTT...and Parade.

I suspect we will get expanded versions of all major re-release mastered (Parade/Sign/Lovesexy). Where they wont make many casual sales. So, they make it up in box sets (This makes it cost effective for them to do.). Basically, expect more box sets. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Im not really sure WHY this surprises people? The loyals bought it and now its done. I mean even artists with new records have this happen, a few years back Bon Jovi debuted at number one sold 135,000 first week and then in three weeks the album was off the chart. That is just the reality of older artists with new records, the base gets it and then its done. As for a PRINCE reissue I hope U realize that outside of 1999, PR, and maybe Sign O the times, no other reissues will chart at all. . This is a reasonable post. Some folks thinking a box set going platinum or something, wow - you know how many posthumous Zappa releases there have been? How many Miles posthumous deluxe box sets? How many Elvis deluxe reissue and/or vault releases? Grateful Dead? And they aren't big sellers, at least not in terms of high sustained chart placement. And they keep releasing them. So someone is making enough cash. . Probably best to chill out and not assume that falling off the charts means they won't do any more deluxe reissues. I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

Anything that came after Purple Rain would've sold well... He was the hottest musician during 84-85. ATWIAD sold most from the hype of Purple Rain, that's the truth. As soon as the record became more aware and circulated that it was the new Prince album and had nothing to do with the Purple Rain sound, it quickly fell off the charts as well, and as a matter of fact was a big dissapointment sales wise to the follow up of Purple Rain. Your talking about a Diamond album 10 million plus seller with Purple Rain and ATWIAD sold only 2 milliion in the U.S.

I still think it sold as it is expected.
Didn't someone said it sold 15000 during the first week and average cost is 70 bucks for the albums that is like over a million sold? If so not very bad and I am sure the estate is very please.
Plus the estate is responsible to advertise (since they oversee his masters and publishings, yes?) I guess they depend word of the mouth, no? I didn't see it advertise as much outside traditional magazines like Rolling Stones and the such.
What is interesting I didn't see the associate advertise it (I think Jill Jones might had on twitter somewhat) that were involved in 1999 on their social media pages. They did interviews and that is just that. Same goes Purple Rain Deluxe/The Originals outside of maybe Jill other associates didn't advertise it either or maybe I am wrong? But I understand because I listened to a recent podcast and Wendy said that doing Prince's songs by playing gigs affecting her and Lisa from focus on their own projects but at the same time they didn't want to come across as opportiniists. Maybe the associates want to keep their social media page on their own projects.

But should the estate promote it more? The estate also controls his publishings and masters not WB, right? I know WB still have international rights to his songs, correct? WB maybe think it is the estate's job to do the promotioning.

I think some of the artists would killed to have the first week of the 1999 SD sales and especially through 95 percent coming from albums per Rolling Stones article especially where many artists bitched about how they can't make money via streaming.

That is what I am thinking.
Looking forward to Parade and SOTT.
