So my mom broke her hip almost a week ago, and I have been spending a lot of time at the hospital. She was in excruciating pain after her fall, and the ER was giving her Fentanyl to help with the pain. Due to the short half-life, she got quite a few doses. It was incredibly effective, but just for a short time. This of course made me think of Prince.

As I was trying to sleep last night the thought popped into my head of how different things COULD have been if his addiction had been handled differently. I am not judging Prince at all, I am just sharing what a huge impact it might have made if he had been comfortable being open about his addiction and what he was going through. I bet he would have gotten so much support, and there might have even been more funding from donors for recovery or anti-drug programs and such. Maybe others would even feel more comfortable coming forward as well, and many lives (including his own) might have been saved or changed.

But then I wondered if he even could come forward, because then he might be pushed to say where the Fentanyl came from, and that could be a dangerous road.

In the end, Prince didn't have many good choices I guess- he was in too deep. But he was such a huge influence on so many that I wish something good could have come from what he went through. Instead everyone is tight-lipped and the drug dealers/makers are claiming more victims.

iamafan, you are correct. I am sad to hear of your mom, and I hope she is doing better. Pain meds when administered correctly are vital in patient care. I hope she is up and well very soon.

With Prince …the shoulda, woulda, coulda’s as well as missed opportunities are staggering. But, for me personally, still after all these years the questions (for me at least) are not that what exactly he was taking, or which meds meds he was takeing, or why he needed them… the question for me is … why on this God’s green earth didn’t he get meds from a reputable source, legally, and a board certified medical doctor? That is what still baffles me.

We keep making excuses and gong round and round…. when at the end of the day, proper medical was non existent. Do I know this for sure, of course not, but It’s the only conclusion I can draw. No disrespect to anyone. Peace. ~DD55
