is it known wether he recorded his own versions of the Bria "Elixir" album's songs?

because some of those songs are just wonderful. still can't believe so many people
either hated or totally slept on this record. the songwriting is great, imo. to me, it
falls somewhere between "3121" and earlier prince (some 80s and 90s flourishes).

i also can't believe all of the were written in 2006-2009. has bria ever talked about
the album in the last few years?

"here eye come" sounds like a lost classic to me, could have been "here U come",
one of those 'really erotic prince songs' he mentioned in the 1999 interview lol eek

anyway, especially songs like "here eye come", "home", "all this love", "another [girl?]"
would be super great to hear with prince lead vocals.

a small hint of which we got when he performed "all this love" at montreux (and a
very cool performance at that). also he performed "elixir" by himself.

but that doesn't mean he recorded versions of those tracks, although, given the way
he worked, it's likely.

anyone know anything about this? smile

perhaps mr hayes offered some insight in the album recording process in one of his
many great interviews over the last few years? i've seen most of them but i can't
recall him mentioning this album or any of these tracks, although he's listed as a
producer on princevault.

I'm sure I read an interview with Ian Boxhill and he mentioned being frustrated as P viewed his solo recording of Elixer as too risqué so it ended up on Bria's album.
.
I agree a few of the tracks are very good and would be great to hear his versions.

One could hope there is a lead vocal version somewhere. I don't know that Bria was there for all the instrumentation and production, since that takes a lot of time and not everyone works on Prince's schedule of recording. Some songs predate her (Kept Woman) so it's possible there are Prince versions.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I think it is very clear by now that he sang guide vocals for every protege record he wrote from the ground up.

Doubt he did vocals for things like Judith Hill's album, but Elixir most assuredly.

Prince's solo version of 'Elixir' has always been an unreleased track I wanted to hear. But yes, nearly the entire album is high quality and I expect Prince's vocals would take the songs to a new level.

that's what i was hoping smile but i've also read/heard that songs like 'redhead stepchild' and
'immersion' were co-written with the respective protege in the studio and that they came
up with the lyrics etc. i think the same goes for a big chunk of andy's album.

iirc it's also been confirmed that there is no 'prince vocal version' of 'redhead stepchild',
since it was pretty much created in the studio on the spot. so this got me to thinking.

so the question really is how much involvement did bria have, if any, or if prince wrote all
the songs, bar immersion's lyrics.

regardless, i just hope and wish that one day we'll have most of the protege songs with
prince on vocals to enjoy in good quality.

for a project like "originals 2", which i'm guessing will remain an 80s affair for now, i'm
hoping and praying for some of the songs he wrote for mavis: jaguar, interesting and

Back when the album came out some notorious orger claimed Prince's demos/versions of some of these songs date all the way back to the 90's. This info was shared to some traders I know and given the source of that info I don't doubt it.

The album is in a different league to the two Prince discs on the same release. A definite contender for the best disc of the post Super Bowl wilderness years. (Perhaps, imho, a tie with HNR2 in second, AOA in first).

Immersion is just fantastic.

i agree that the album is very good. the songwriting is really solid, and although i like the songs
themselves more than MPLSound, i still listen to MPLSound more because it's him on vocals. it's
just what puts his own albums over the top for me, because he's singing. but if he was singing
lead on the Elixer album it would be one of my favorites, i think.

however, the Lotusflower title disc is one of my favorite albums of his, period. it's somewhere
in the top 10, very closely behind his all time best, classic albums. i don't know exactly what it
is about that album, but i love every single second on that disc, i was chuffed to bits with it
when it was released and still am to this very day.

Amazing album, this one and Milk & Honey, would bet most songs on these two albums have a Prince vocal version. Kept Woman is the standout for me, which showed up on both albums.

I remember an orger, who had been to some of his 3121 parties, claiming he played his version of Another Boy, obviously called Another Girl, at one of the parties, while projections of him and Mani played on the screen. I'd love to hear his versions of these songs. His live version of All This Love is one of my favorite live moments from him, and definitely my favorite live moment from the Montreux set.

eek wow, this is completely new information to me.

it's pretty alarming how much joy such little bits of information bring me lol it makes me
shudder a bit and realise that, yes, i'm a fam biggrin

i'd love a real nice document of those 3121 parties, like a box set with a book and cd's and
video footage etc. it was such a thrilling time, eventho we as fans got to see very little of
it, except for being teased with reviews on npgmc lol evil

Elixir the released song struck me as a gem of a Prince song with a guest female vocalist the same as Erotic City has a guest femakle vocalist. It makes sense for the song's narrative/theme.

It should have been on his own album.

"Another Boy" was originally called "Another Girl" and was an anniversary gift to M2.

"Here Eye Come" was for Nona originally, which is why it's sonically similar to the "1000 Hugs & Kisses" that he gave to Nona, as well as the lyrical reference to Marvin "make me wanna take a shower" referenced from "Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)" .

"Kept Woman" was written by Tamar Davis & Prince and included on her unreleased album "Milk & Honey".

"Elixer", as I remember, was recorded during the sessions for the 2008 so-called "F.U.N.K." album that he was chastized about by the JW before he cancelled its release.

I don't know much about the rest.

We can also suggest that "All This Love" and "Something U Already Know" (two songs that include the Dunhams as musicians) were likely first intended for "3121".

Interesting infos here if confirmed.

All I know is that Kept Woman was first copyrighted in the ASCAP database as a P\Tamar composition circa 2006, then copyrighted again as a P/Bria composition circa 2008, despite being identical. This tends to suggest that neither Bria nor Tamar cowrote that song, which raises suspiscion over all their other cowriting credits. So its safe to assume that most, if not all their songs are just P, with P demos existing prior to their involvement.

Unverified but cohesive, someone here once claimed they met Tamar and she told them that P just gave her royalties out of kindness, something we know he had done with Sheila, Carmen and the 93/95 NPG before.
