great album, however not impressed with the remaster at all. 'bold generation' sourced from tape sounds better than almost every track on this remaster.

So far I am loving it. It is particularly nice on Let's Pretend We're Married where Prince's harmony vocals really pop out and on DMSR where the individual guitars can be heard distinctly.

Has anyone actually listened to this in full yet? I'm going through it now and DMSR sounds different with certain keyboard bits added and missing.

I agree it's really loud and clipped 9dr compared to previous editions of 14d, extremely disappointed, the life sucked out of it.

I was noticing earlier today about Automatic. The talking section is panned left to right and back but I am not 100% sure if that didn't occur in the original. I did think the vocals were a tiny bit low. [Edited 11/27/19 4:03am]

As the leak shared with me is MP3, I'm waiting till I pick up the discs Friday to listen to disc 1 so I can do a comparison with the original CD. Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

The cd version is far better than mp3 version circulating !

I've just been comparing my original CD with the new CD and I'm really disappointed to say I do in fact prefer the original CD.

Based on the leak I suspect this remaster will be used in the same way as the Purple Rain remaster - fine for streaming on my phone/playlisting on Spotify, but stick to the original if I'm looking for high quality listening and, you know, dynamics. [Edited 11/28/19 4:56am]

. Which "original" CD? The one missing a track, or the later "complete" edition which uses a different master IIRC. © Bart Van Hemelen

Obviously they're talking about the 2nd edition that includes the whole album. Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

I have the 10 track version in my collection, didn't know any different and it was quite some time later when I realised there was a missing track. Also obvioulsy have the complete version too. RIP

Sounded great when I listened today, particularly “D.M.S.R.” and “International Lover”. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

Yep sounds fantastic. Not too loud and its sounds crystal clear. Drums and bass sound so much more satisfying

Happy to be wrong, they were just mp3s

It always (and still) strikes me about Little Red Corvette how the album version has vocals clipping all over the place, and the Special Dance Mix is much cleaner. How did this come about? It clearly is a different mix. Still, I'm happy they didn't 're-mix' the album version for this remaster (it's only a remaster after all).

Duane Tudahl's book says they reconstructed the full version from the scraps of tape left around when the track was originally (physically) edited for the album, once that was done they made a copy and added overdubs and remixed it.

I think the remaster of the original album, rather than a remix is a missed opportunity. .

I largely agree but even amongst those who are ok with it there'll just be more debate on how they remixed it wrong.

Some instruments on D.M.S.R are reversed left/right compared to the old CD/HDtracks versions. Haven't noticed any difference on other tracks yet but haven't listened much yet.

Some tracks seem to be reversed !!! For example, the rythm guitar on the song 1999 was on the right channel, now it's on the left... [Edited 11/29/19 8:59am] [Edited 11/29/19 9:17am] "You can skate around the issue if you like,
