Parade at the bottom. Yikes. No hateration here just curious as to your metrics. Thanks!

Hi AZ,

Sorry I'm just responding, I just noticed your reply today. To get straight to the point: Parade is the only album on the list that I don't love. It only has 3 songs that I listen to often ( Sometimes it Snow in April, Kiss, Anotherlover...). The rest of it ...whew...weak as hell compared to what our guy brought before. The song "Christopher Tracy's Parade" is pretentious drivel. Way too much W & L influence on this album for me.

I remember buying this on release day...driving home at unsafe speed...throwing the platter on the player and saying...."WHAT THE FUCK?" and not in a good way. Oh well. My all time favorite artist had a misfire ...it happens. It's still a good album by most measures and for any other artist I suppose. It just seemed forced and again... pretentious pastiche from a guy I considered anything but a follower. Luckily he self corrected with perhaps my all time favorite album: Sign O the Times!!!

im more suprised the Dirty Mind album doesnt show up as #1 on more lists...thats one of the rare perfect albums in music history...not only were all the songs completely different and amazingly crafted, but that shit sounded so good at high volume on a banging system... the guitars and bass and drums sound so clear and crispy it never fails to touch my soul...the mix on When U Were Mine & Party Up sound like P is in the same room playing right next to me...still [Edited 12/5/19 12:53pm]

Absolutely spot on!

to each his own... I love Christopher Tracy's Parade and W&L's influence. To me the only weak spot on the album is SISIA - doesn't belong there. It's an absolute fun album.

Timing is everything for me. I became a fan in '83 when I was 13/14. When Dirty Mind was released I was 10 years old and had never heard of Prince. By the time I bought Dirty Mind and got to know the songs it was probably '86 or thereabouts and I just didn't think it stood up to his 'modern' albums that I was buying on the day of release and falling in love with.

I concede that had I been 5 years older and had discovered Prince with Dirty Mind and I was 14 or 15 it would have had a huge impact on me. But it is what it is and I like what I like razz
