I avoid anything and everything about him, he's too damn snobby and "privileged" and his opinions and reviews about Prince and his music don't impress me at all. Thoroughly unlikeable person for the most part.

I don't see this as a reason to hate a dude, it's actually a common attitude among certain groups of collectors (of any artist). What cracks me up, is that he thinks his privilege allowed him to hear this stuff. Yea, maybe for a track or two, but most of this stuff had been available on the trading circuit for years and, subsequently, for anyone who ever stumbled upon file-sharing.

Well, not totally. He's mentioned certain things he's heard that we've never had in circulation. And what about the things he hasn't mentioned, the things he's kept quiet to himself and not talked about? We simply don't know. Quest isn't dim that he doesn't understand others have bootlegs. He said as much in his post, that we all have hissy, 4th generation tapes that we've loved for so long. I think he's speaking a bit to the fun of having something that isn't meant to be out yet; it feels naughty or mischevious to own a copy of a copy of the Black Album, or whatever. That romance is gone. We asked for vault copies of stuff, and now we have them. And folks are still bitchin'. But anyway...

I'm not sure why people have to hate on Questlove. He's a fan like all of us. The real problem is that every Prince fan thinks they're the biggest and best Prince fan on the planet. No one knows more about Prince than that person. It's a perpetual pissing contest. Even Per Nilsen, Anil Dash, or whoever can't compete with those who were around him and friends with him. While outside fans like Per or Anil (just using them as examples) can offer an outsiders look in, I'd much rather hear from folks like Quest or Susan Rogers, Peggy Mac, etc. Even when the books started coming out and people found a reason to bash on Mayte, I thought "why wouldn't you want to hear from the first person Prince put a ring on her finger? She had something Susannah, Sheila, Susan, or whoever else he may or may not have proposed to had. That is the person I want to hear from." And out of all of the books that have come out, I've only purchased Mayte's and Prince's. I read Steve Parke's, which was a terrific read from a photographer's POV.

So instead of hating on Questlove, why not just appreciate him as any fellow fan who is also the biggest Prince fan on the planet? Why not listen to his ideas along with anyone else's and filter them down and see what resonates instead of what irritates? Isn't it just easier and less cunty? Also, has anyone gotten after the elitists mentioned in an existing thread about live videos that need to come out, and how they're sitting on multi-cam pro shots of Lovesexy or SOTT or Parade shows? If Quest had so much privilege that he was able to hear shit we've never heard, instead of bashing him for it - pick his motherfucking brain to learn everything you can. It's what Prince fans do, right?

When you pay extra for bootlegs that aren't widely circulating you're of course taking the risk that one day those tracks will get leaked by someone, or as in this case, get released officially. So, you're really just paying for getting to hear them before most others.

i see where he is coming from. But he is kind of a jerk about it. I liked having most of these to listen to... and people have asked "what is this?" and I could tell them it is unreleased... and they would go oh wow... but with each release I have fewer unreleased songs... but that is the deal I made.

I do not know what this is...however... there was an interview with the guy who filmed it (the concert and the story elements) and he said that Prince bought back the concert film back but not the story parts... so how did this "sauron" get it? (and isn't that a lord of the rings thing?)

To be fair though, he did play a fairly integral role in one of the best R&B/funk albums since Prince’s heyday (D’Angelo’s Voodoo).

Questlove's post made me lose what little respect I had for him. He's an entitled jerk. The worst part of his post for me was when he claimed Prince had run out of ideas in 1990.

with all the problems going on in the world we should really care about Questlove not being the only one hearing some Prince songs..

totally blown up out of all proportion by some nut jobs! AND many missed the point he makes about the realisation that his /our hero isn't coming back.

Anyone who follows his social media knows that he phrases things differently.
