I loved Kid Creole and the Coconuts. Then when I heard Prince made music for them I loved them all the more. Makes me feel good knowing Prince had the same good taste as I did. klick

I loved Kid Creole & Coconuts as well, but The Sex of it was one of their weaker singles. Guess they took it out of respect. [Edited 10/23/19 7:23am]

Think it got to like Number 15 in the charts here in the uk, so it did ok

I still think Prince should have kept that for himself. I freaking love his vocals on it. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Prince respected Kid Creole because... well because it's Kid Creole!!! August Darnell used a multi-cultural and multi-racial band, playing all kinds of cross over music and use a persona that must have made Prince smile. Lots of girls, zoot suits and the like. Check out Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band.
Kid Creole was an epic force of nature in the early 1980's.

I also think Prince used a bit of the Kid Creole look and persona when he created the Time.In the spring of '82,Kid Creole and the Coconuts released an excellent single ("I'm A Wonderful Thing,Baby")....it's easy to imagine Morris Day singing that song.

Yes, totally so. I was a fan before i even knew Prince. And when i did, I immediately put that link. That time i even said to myself that P knew where to get his inspiration...

They did an awesome job with the song. Its hard to imagine it covered. It's pretty similar to what Prince did with the demo.

I actually love the Kid Creole version. MyeternalgrattitudetoPhil&Val.Herman said "We want sweaty truckers at the truck stop! We want cigar puffing men that look like they wanna beat the living daylights out of us" Val"sporking is spooning with benefits"

When I first saw Prince(r.i.p.) debut "The Sex Of it" live was on a surprise aftershow in 1987 after the MTV Video Awards. It was a hot funky night. "That mountain top situation is not really what it's all cracked up 2 B when was doing the Purple Rain tour had a lot of people who knew 'll never c again @ the concerts.just screamin n places they thought they was suppose 2 scream."

It was my first, surprise, same day, announcement show out of many of Prince's(r.i.p.).We were packed against the stage like sardines. Of course I was up front against the stage. I remember Prince(r.i.p.) jammin "Mother Popcorn" as a soundcheck before the curtains lifted and we was peeking under the curtain watching Prince(r.i.p.) do scissor splits one after another. His energy & the band was non stop from start to finish. Prince(r.i.p) made being a fan exhilarating with one adventure after another. It was like being on a non stop musical rollercoaster. He actually first played the song live (its debut) on September 5th, 1987 at Rupert's Nightclub in MN. I've heard the audio of that show, and it sounded great.

So, you got into the sold out show at the Reseda Country Club?? I would think it would have been mainly an "invite only" and VIP situation as the club capacity was only 1,000.

I love Prince's demo. It was a personal song, and his vocals just fit the lyrics so well.

What makes U think I wasn't part of VIP boo boo? "That mountain top situation is not really what it's all cracked up 2 B when was doing the Purple Rain tour had a lot of people who knew 'll never c again @ the concerts.just screamin n places they thought they was suppose 2 scream."

Are U now calling me a liar?

Well, it seems, per your posts, you attended every concert, TV performance, and after party of his career, while partying with all of his associates. So, you can understand where the doubt sets in, right??

U are a piece of work. U just can't handle that someone has had additional personal experiences, besides knowing as much if not more than U do. Poor baby it just irks U so much. August Darnell's run from about 1976 to 1983 or 4 is a pretty underappreciated golden age by a brilliant songwriter, frontman, musician, bandleader etc.

No “irking” here at all. I am far from the only person here who questions your “grandstanding” when it comes to Prince, and how you place yourself at every big event of his career. I’m entitled to my doubts. Your stories elude to being some type of “VIP”, and if that really was/is the case then I think it’s unlikely that you would be hanging out on the Org. My opinion and I’m entitled to it

Oh! Like they discuss your obsession with The Melvoin's?! "That mountain top situation is not really what it's all cracked up 2 B when was doing the Purple Rain tour had a lot of people who knew 'll never c again @ the concerts.just screamin n places they thought they was suppose 2 scream."

Oh! Like they discuss your obsession with The Melvoin's?! I have discussions and posts about many who were involved with Prince during his career. Take a look at my post history. However, your posts have become quite predictable whenever there is a thread or post about a performance or concert. Sometimes it can be anything - like this thread about a song - that you turn into a grandiose tale about how you were “there” to witness it - usually mingling with all of his associates

andymacfunky said: I always thought it funny that on the album, The Sex Of It followed No More Casual Sex. Anyhow, the double concert DVD from 1982 is excellent, so much energy. Plus I agree with the above comment that Prince probably used the Kid Creole influence in styling The Time. The song The Sex of It definitely seems to have been done in the Kid Creole style, but August Darnell (aka Kid Creole) didn't form the band until 1980, when Prince was already forming The Time. I guess it’s possible that Prince saw them perform and copied that style for The Time. I always thought The Time’s style was the 20’s Gangster look - Stacy Adams shoes and bold print suits with coiffed hair. They were like “funk gangsters”
