One song a week - 4ever??

It’s been interesting when the estate drip-feeds tracks. We all get to soak up that song together and appreciate it for what it is. Looking at the amount of material released in 2019... they could have easily given us one song a week, every week to keep us satisfied between major releases

As I drive around blasting the latest teaser, I would be happy with one every Friday.

Would U?

You people, I swear. Ya'll act like you're the only ones who are buying this stuff, so someone should just spoon feed it to you. Sorry baby, there's millions of folks in the US, and they're going to market stuff to as many folks as possible. The estate isn't sitting around reading the Org trying to figure out what to release next and appease us. Dis a bid'ness. You ain't too far gone to see dat yet.

By “you people” I presume you mean hardcore Prince fans? Then yeah, that’s exactly who is buying this stuff. It should be marketed to a wider audience too of course. All I’m suggesting is the possibility of streaming one song a week.
Yes, I DO think the estate read what the fans would like, the new 1999 Deluxe format sounds pretty much like it was lifted from a site like the .org.

20 unreleased 1999 songs and 15 demos he wrote for other people is as niche as it comes. Dis, indeed, is a bid’ness.

I’ve really been enjoying the original take of International Lover over the past few days... imagine if every song got our full attention like that?

What does this monologue have to do with just streaming a single a week which is something common in modern releases?

I think the Originals sales figures argue we kind of are the only ones buying this stuff... we can see what 1999 Deluxe brings, but the true litmus test will be the first non-Purple Rain or 1999 deluxe release, if and when one gets released, or another one-off Vault release like Originals, but so far those do not bode well in terms of mass-marketability to hit "millions."

The monologue is actually contradictory because it argues their contemporary goal is mass-marketability but they have yet to utilize a single contemporary marketing tool besides mass-dumping previously released content to YouTube like every other artist.

Yep. Why the hell would anyone else be interested in the stuff he didn't think was worthy of release? Outside of Nothing Compares they're not listening. Are new Chuck Berry fans checking out the unreleased takes or going straight to Johnny B. Goode? The best case scenario is some Mamma-Mia style musical reviving the same old hits, or a renaissance for an individual half-forgotten single the way Don't Stop Me Now became Queen's biggest song (give or take) around 2006 or so.

To be honest, I am not even sure what that person is trying to say. "They want to market to millions (false) so they're not going to release more music faster."??

There are contemporary artists out there who have drip feeds of singles over years. Once every month or two, etc. Stream exclusives, etc. And then an album comes after that which may even be entirely separate from the singles with no actual album collating said singles.

It's like some folks on here just like to be argumentative and throw in Prince-related quotes while ultimately saying nothing.

So... The Estate just released another Vault track, I Feel 4 U (acoustic demo).

Maybe they DO read suggestions from hardcore fans after all!!! wink
