Wow.. they all get paid based on sales? Or did they get paid for the service they performed once and then it's done?

.

Where do you think the money for that service comes from?

And many band members have spoken about the cheques they continue to receive for music they made with Prince decades ago. You should still be paying for Prince music.

It's a wonderful album, which I'd rank above 8 and 16. Parlour Games is my fav track, but I can happily listen to them all. That's rare. And that ending to Rootie Kazootie eek
Makes me think of Texas Chainsaw Massacre or something!

Interesting, I haven't read that, personally. I did hear other things about people not getting paid. In any case, it's good to abide by the law, when it is just. At the same time, I have paid many times over for the same "license", since I have many things on vinyl, cd, slightly different pressings, etc.

.

Since the "owner" side of things takes some advantage of the consumers without properly compensating, I feel it is entirely unproblematic if there is some unlawful copying on the other side.

I get what you're saying. If you have the vinyl LP (or cassette) sitting on your shelf, then theoretically you'd be morally (if not necessarily legally) in your rights to download a digital version of that same album for your own use. Prince would've already been paid for that release - by you - at least once.

But, in the case of Madhouse 24, it was never released. At that point, downloading it becomes a bootleg.
