I have some memory that "Moral Majority" is related to the early version of "We Can Funk" ("We Can Fuck", I guess), in which case, we might already have it as incorporated into that track.

Michael howe talks over an hour about very interesting stuff about how Prince's vault material is being treated, processed, handled, mastered, digitalised and taken care of,

in an interview he did for the RMAF back in 2018,

and only 545 people listented to it?!

He mentiones that there are several hundreds TERABITES of (digital only?) material available...

The process of first paying attention to the ANOLOG stuff in the vault, etc... listen to it!

Took place; November 5, 2018 at Rocky Mountain International Audio Fest.

-

Listen to him extensively talking about Prince and the work he does for and from the Vault in LA,

(from 3:40 to 44:10)

It's somehow very interesting to see and hear the guy talk with (a bit of a corporate feel, but also with lots of passion and know-how) about WHAT WE WANT, and WHAT THEY DO, and WHAT THE ESTATE WANTS.

I find that very comforting, knowing that they (somehow actually) listen to what fans say etc.

I honestly was not aware of the possibility even.

-

Maybe I missed something here, and possibly Bart is going to bash me that it is somehwere already mentioned in a thread here or elsewhere.

(But) That's not my point (Bart).

Every serious fan should listen to this.

The guy has a lot to tell, considdering the fact that he can not tell much due to contracts etc.

CHECK. IT. OUT.

I was sure 1999 wasn't gonna be released this year because of Micheal Howe. Judging from the past, he kept putting it back, so why would he change his mind and release it this year? He has all the power after all. Now it turns out Howe is promoting this year after all. That's just really weird.

I don't think he has the power to choose what is released when.

That said, whether is was him or the label, they may have chosen to release it now, to make up sales in this financial year due to the lack of sales of Original.

What's clear from the 1999 formats, is they are testing whether a limited sales volume at high cost is more profitable that a 'mass market' push.

I was thinking something similar. With The Originials it seemed like they were aiming for a broad audience, trying to sell low-cost units in large quanitities.

But as that didn't happen (i.e. as they've discovered there isn't a mass audiencel for Prince), they're now willing to listen to those voices within the estate who are aguing to go after Prince's hardcore fans and offer them premium items. They'll sell less units, but each unit has a wider margin.

Which also means this could be an experiment, to see if the hardcore fans truly are willing to shell out for this type of material.

There IS a mass audience for Prince music....the marketing strategy has to be right. Meaning, nowadays there need to be something BESIDES an album to sell an album. Obviously Prince won't be doing promos/concert and tv appearances. So how to generate interest from the masses?

-

Look at Queen: They sold to the masses last year because of an event that correlated: The Movie.

-

Also, Bowie was never as "commerical" or "pop" as Prince. That doesn't stop his estate for selling a multitude of packages to a multitude of consumers.

-

I think the estate is just starting to figure out strategies to sell to hardcore fans and the casual Prince fan.

Bold Generation is an early version of New Power Generation eek

I always wondered how it came that Morris Day played drums on "New Power Generation".
Now that we know that it started as a song for The Time it makes sense to me.
"New Power Generation" might not be a complete re-recording of "Bold Generation".
Maybe we'll get to hear the familiar NPG-drum-track on "Bold Generation".
Can't wait!
