I know this is all worth a ha'penny of bubblegumtar and that but, I'm moved to say, I spent that read wondering when Anotherloveholenyohead would feature...and kept wondering...and kept wondering...and then thought, "top twenty?"...then thought, "Top ten?"...and then thought, "but he's not mentioned Kiss, yet...". To have a top 50 that includes Gotta Stop, Gold and Guitar (amongst others) and not to feature Anotherlover...well...I must to a darkened corner and fan myself. |

Agreed. It's obvious the writer is a massive fan, which is great.
But then lauding Baltimore as the track suggestive of a latter career resurgence is an absolutely horrid reference for the uninitiated.
Baltimore is the ONE SINGLE TRACK on HNR2 that is vomit inducing. The rest of the album is a gem....

Yes, Mr Petridis is a huge fan...which makes me question all the more! Only in jest, I add. It's a treat to have a list like this published and think, "you know, he's missed some out, here...". |

Lol, yes! of course this is completely subjective but I couldn't agree more. anotherloverholenyohead is one of my all-time favorite Prince songs (out of a long list). I spent my time reading this article marveling at how someone can even compile such a list, especially when comprised of Prince songs, lol. |

Makes for a very crowded watercooler, a list like this one... |

Haha! Indeed!
There are very few songs in the cannon I loathe as much as Baltimore. Ironically enough, almost all of them reside on HNR1!!!! (Along with Karmasutra and NPS).
The cheesy melody and chant chorus hurt Baltimore a lot. Not what I'm looking for in a Prince tune. But the out and out misinformed/misguided lyrics transform it from cheesy to downright unlistenable. (Only IMO - not looking for a debate on the lyrical content). |

Anotherloverholeinyourhead should have been a big hit. He didn't make a video for it, instead it was a live performance, which was fine, but not how you'd want to present this fine studio track. I wish he'd made this the second single instead of Mountains. |

For those people who say you like the song Baltimore, is it simply that you like its socio-political message? Or do actually believe the way the message expressed (i.e. the lyrics) is clever or sophisticated, and/or you find the music to be aesthetically pleasing?

Pretty good list and I wouldn't really argue with the order much. Personally I have never particularly liked I Would Die 4 U and I too am surprised to not see Anotherloverholenhohead. 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything. |

That's actually a pretty decent list.
Until i saw Guitar way to high, but it was forgiven
Until i saw Baltimore in there at 17. What mushroom is that writer on??? |

I'd have had the three Gold Experience singles way higher, and "Gett Off" has always been kinda 'meh' to me (don't hate it either, though). The top 10's otherwise solid enough. |

Surprised that Paisley Park didn't make the list, as well as Anotherlover... and D&P. Personally I'd also have RocknRoll Love Affair ahead of Baltimore and Screwdriver. |

And where the hell is Stare? His last great single in my opinion! |

Great list. I would have included Sign of the Times instead of Baltimore. |
