Will they still make deluxe editions of other albums after 1999?

Do you think they'll stop making deluxe editions in this manner after 1999? If not what album do you think will be next, or what album do you want to see next?

Nah not really counting the chickens. It was just a thought because I'm so stoked about the 1999 coming out. I hope more deluxe editions come out later. I mainly just want to get some thoughts on what editions you guys want to see next.

The rumor was that 1999: Deluxe and Parade: Deluxe were compiled and completed at the same time. So I'd guess that Parade will be next.

If I were guessing the upcoming release schedule, for fun, I'd say 1999: Deluxe, First Ave 1983, Originals 2, Parade: Deluxe.

edit: For more fun. 1999: Deluxe = November, First Ave 1983 = March 2020, Originals 2 = June 2020, Parade: Deluxe = November 2020

I think Michael Howe mentioned that "a couple" (I believe those were the words) were in the pipeline around the time he was giving interviews for the Originals release, so I'd imagine we're going to get at least one more in the semi-near future. Honestly, I don't see a scenario in which we don't get more deluxe versions. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

SDE: You know this already, but there’s a massive appetite for what you might call the classic Prince era of the 80s. All those albums like Sign ‘O’ The Times, Parade, Around The World In A Day etc. You know, big, expanded box set editions of those albums to come out, similar to the way Purple Rain did with live stuff, 12-inch mixes, outtakes, whatever… Is that kind of thing miles away or is it…

MH: No, it’s not miles away. I mean I can’t … this is a very dicey area for me but it’s not miles away. I think there will be, you know, a couple of them will probably emerge over the next year or two, is my guess. And one of them is pretty much done.

I guess they probably will for most of his 80s albums. I can see similar sets being designed for Controversy, ATWIAD, Parade, SOTT, Lovesexy, Graffiti Bridge, D&P, prince and The Gold Experience. I imagine these would be profitable as 'Deluxe' editions. The others might be a little too obscure for the general market. A Batman one would be great, but I imagine that would be a shitstorm of legalities (hence why you never see "Batdance" on any Greatest Hits compilations). We will see, I guess...

The realistic answer is - if this one sells enough copies to generate meaningful revenue, then yes.

They aren't running a charity here.

I'm surprised Sign O' the Times isn't in the discussion. It may not have sold the most, but it's his most critically acclaimed.

I don't think they will stop, at least not yet. There will most likely be at least one more before they decide whether it's worth making more deluxe editions or not. Parade Deluxe will probably be next and I'm fine with that smile

On CD 3,4,5 I would say probably not given the age of the recordings, meaning at the time Prince recorded these, there were not nearly as many sticky hands around being tempted to get a copy for themselves. Probably about 1/4 of them though have beeb circulating in one form or another for many years.

I hope they make SDE's for each and every album, especially for the WB era. They all deserve one, and I have to imagine there's enough bonus material to make 'em each quality releases.
