Militant the moderator, when you say Sony and the "Prince Estate". WHom are you talking about. Lets be clear on this website and not be fools. The Prince rightful heirs (brothers and sisters) according to recent lawsuits, are getting no money from "Prince Estate. The prince estate is owned and run by Comerica Bank lawyers. (aka Comerica CEOs, not Prince Heirs)
Comerica Bank (aka prince estate) is being run by president Ralph Babb (CEO) and Curtis Farmer (CEO). Is this the person Militant are working for here? Is Prince.org promoting now for Ralph Babb and Curtis Farmer Releases (Comerica bank, aka Prince trust).
Let us know Miltant the moderator? Who are you promoting this release for?

It's funny when people act like they know what they are talking about, and then demonstrate that they actually don't. |

Too bad you didn't review the most important aspect of the releases. The sound quality of the vinyl and Reissued CD's. Unless you're saving that for another video. The selling point of the vinyl is how good those albums sound on vinyl. I'm not including Versace as I haven't bothered with that. But if anyone is still considering get the albums on vinyl, I think you'll appreciate how much richer they sound on vinyl.

- I agree. 'Joint 2Joint' also has more details to be heard. - I do agree that the overall sound quality of the vinyl is better. I haven't done an indepth search on both for all the tracks though. - The only thing I really do regret is the artwork. Neatly done on all seperate vinyls and innersleeves etc, but, the quality of the images is absolutly bad ! Blurred as hell ! Seems almost like they had a wrapped CD version somewhere, openend it up, and put it on a copy machine, and enlarged it with 50% ! It is thàt bad of a (picture) quality ! Such a shame. I know it's been said that it is expensive, (I paid 89,99 EURO for the package), ...seems a lot, but it's ok for 6LPs in a box, marbled vinyls, innersleeves in colour, download card... Just a shame of the blurred artwork. - And no extra info... Something that could've been done by on of the engineers for instance : (why not actually), like, - Tom Tucker, or - Ray Hahnfeldt, - Steve Durkee, - Shane T.K., - Hans-Martin Buff, - César Sogbe, or Joe Galbo. -

Here's what actually happened with the Emancipation vinyl. Steve Parke was heavily involved:

Thanx for new info | |

It seems the original artwork files got lost. So this is a photoshop fix of artwork that was already a hideous photoshop job to begin with. I tend to find Steve Parke a very nice man but the artwork on this one was pretty awful. The HQ-er formerly known as krokostimpy.

For what it's worth, when I first met with the Sony team in Minneapolis, I did suggest a reprint of, or usage of the Emancipation Words & Photos book, along with other suggestions, and they were very receptive. Ultimately right now though, the idea is to basically do reissues that are as faithful to the original pressings as possible. There's some room for new ideas - like the Versace release and some of the limited edition 7" vinyls that have come out - plus the idea of bundling the Rave releases together, but for the most part it does seem to be straight reissues, and some of them will be very interesting ones - there's certainly scope for a ONA Piano, for example, which has been historically hard to find or expensive for many people, and perhaps a standalone of The Truth with the original planned artwork. That's not an indication of what's next, before anyone takes it that way, just that the scope is there and that these conversations are happening. |

It's a lost classic in my opinion. One of Prince's albums that is surely destined for reappraisal.

This thing is just so much better than I thought it was 23 years ago. Not going to revisit the criticisms we've heard a million times or propose a one disc tracklist blah blah.
This is an important album in his catalog. Yes 3 albums. Just imagine if he had released these 36 cuts 12 at a time as albums. That's how I listen to it. 1 disc bites.
I used to hate the sterile production but it sounds pretty darn good to me now. I would love for today's POP music to sound like this than the auto-tuned dreck it has become.
With the reissue now out has anyone else rediscovered "Emancipation"?
36 tracks. I can't say I dislike any of them. Even "Da Da Da" works for me. Not great but catchy.
So where you at TODAY on "Emancipation"?
1. Loved it from day one and ain't a damn thing changed. One of his best. 2. Liked it at the time but only like partos of it today. Shoulda been 1 disc, etc 3. Didn't like it when it first came out but it grew on me. A good album 4. Didn't like it when it first came out but now think it's a mastperpiece 5. Always hated this bloated mess.

- I wonder why the Vinyl Bootleg Market is not waking up ... ! - Too expensive to produce ? I remember quite well the vinyl bootlegs from the late eighties and early nineties... They're basically colectibles by now. -

I bought Emancipation, Versace, and the Raves on vinyl. They sound very good indeed. There were a couple of flaws in the Rave discs and had to be exchanged. So if you get them, listen carefully.
