Purple Rain Tour (Intermission Music)

After recently listening to Dez Dickerson’s Modernaire I had a flashback to the my experience at the Purple Rain Tour. During the intermission between Sheila E’s set and Prince they played some fire unheard tracks mixed with some favorites. I distinctly remember staring at the black and white face curtain in anticipation when I realized they were playing new music. Modernaire was the only new track the crowd knew because they went nuts when it went past the part it stops in the movie. Others songs I’m vaguely remembering were Purple Music, Feel U Up, Erotic City, Nasty Girl, 17 Days, God(Instrumental), Free, 3x2=6. A lot of deep cuts not in the set list, but no Time songs (which I was waiting for).

Does anyone here recall any vault tracks you may have heard first on the tour?

1997 : The Jam Of The Year Tour

There was a pre-recorded show played over the PA before the show.
It was a female voice,
Similar to Versace Sampler experience she introduced songs some of which were unreleased (or at the time they were)
It may have been a 1800 new funk promo

I remember sitting there and being like excited what am I hearing!?
I remember hearing Crystal Ball being sung. Now what I don't remember if it was The Ball or Crystal Ball. Probably the later as the album was released a year later

It may have been select songs from the crystal ball album with other npg artist 🤔
I'm sure someone knows the info..
Cant believe my purple psychedelic pimp slap pimp2

And I descend from grace, In arms of undertow
I will take my place, In the great below

They didn’t play anything in St. Louis or Moline, but in KC they played Crystal Ball and a few Karmasutra tracks

During the Under The Cherry Moon Tour and I think also the Sign Of The Times tour they were playing Andreas Vollenweider music a lot. I still don't understand why they would subject us to that though. Maybe to keep us quiet and trance-like. razz
