The new director has been picked.

Apparently, working without self-publicity. It's a good choice and no, none of you guessed correctly.

What is that supposed to mean? O tell us who it is great Oracle.

I cannot reveal more.

It will be evident at the right time.

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

Okay. It's just annoying when someone tells you ya wrong without telling the answer. Unnecessary rubbing it in.

Thats the one for me.

Oscar winning approach to documentries. He knows how to take footage and tell a narrative.

He sounds very good. Haven't seen any of his films but I'd like to. Has he won an Oscar?

He won an oscar for his docuementary on Amy Winehouse, 'Amy'.

It's brilliantly put together. The use of interviews put together with seperate footage is very well thought out. He didn't hide the bad parts either. That might be a problem for the estate.

If you get the chance to see 'Amy', do it. It's sad, but a wonderful reflection of a great talent.

Loved his work on “Amy.” He broke the common stylistic and narrative tropes that are usually in music docs. I doubt the Prince Estate would give him the same editorial power.

So, all kidding aside, has there been any real news about this lately from the Netflix camp? I feel like this project held so much promise, then basically a no-go! I feel like a mushroom; being kept in the dark and all. Sigh......................

A lot of the names ya'll are coming up with have never made a documentary in their life.

All I know is, Ava didn't jump out as a great match to do it anyway and whoever they pick, it runs the risk of being too corny, or too basic telling us what we already know. I just don't picture seeing this happen.

...unless Spike makes it...and while I thought the MJ film was surprisingly good, I don't need to see a doc centered around his Prince block party. But he's the only director name that would make all parties happy...he has a deal with Netflix, he'd lobby to do it, he has a relationship with the estate or at least someone over there, and he'd be able to get some conflicting parties to participate. I don't think he'd do Prince justice though.

I liked Ava because of Queen Sugar which depicts another side of black culture. She seemed culturally flexible. I'd want someone who could understand the Minneapolis culture because that played a part in shaping Prince and his fan base is so diversified in even their musical taste which adds uniqueness. Someone who can "speak different dialects" i don't care who.
