In the months before his death, Prince was planning on "discussing his life" on a TV talk show

https://www.apnews.com/be...5a5059b157

.

A few months before Prince died, he asked his friend Tamron Hall where he would go if he wanted to discuss his life.

.

At the time, the TV personality was co-host of the third hour on NBC’s “Today.”

.

Prince said he was going to talk to Charlie Rose, who had an eponymous talk show on PBS and was a co-anchor on rival “CBS This Morning.”

.

Hall says she “got so mad” at Prince that an argument ensued and she hung up on him. He called her back and she demanded to know how he could choose Rose.

.

Prince never did the interview and died in April 2016.

.

Hall told the story at a TV critics meeting Monday while discussing her new talk show “Tamron Hall.”

For a person who didn't like to look back, he sure was looking back a lot during that time. The desire to discuss his life, the book he was working on, the P&M tour, the redecorating of Paisley Park...all very retrospective.

.

I certainly have no idea what was driving all this.

Not sure why she was mad...did she want to interview him?

If so, I do not think she is a good interviwer...too self-oriented.

Who would have good? A three part series with Terry Gross, but that would not be on TV.

the common consensus with associates is that he realised he had done all he had came here to do...what more was left? Hence the 'fro, the cycle of the moon designs etc = all coming back full circle & a time to repair bridges & reflect.

Not mentioned in that article, is that the interview with Rose fell apart due to "lighting".
In other words, P was most interested in preserving how he was perceived to look rather than his natural and beautiful aging.
All the lighting in his 2015 and 2916 shows was dark or fractured.

Because she was his friend, which was publicly known (he even used her photo as a single cover) and he said he was going to do an interview with a rival network.

What do you think her bosses would have thought about that?

Could be that Tamron knew about Charlie's Rose's behind-the-scenes doings with women, too. Had Prince done that interview with him, it would be overshadowed by Rose being a complete creep, which was publicly revealed in 2017 and ended his career.

Agreed. Interested to read what was completed in the upcoming book The Beautiful Ones even though there isn't going to be that many pages. Would have been cool if P had the opportunity to write a complete autobiography since he rarely gave interviews.

I don't feel she had the gravitas to interview him.

I am unclear...was the interview already arranged with C. Rose?

I certainly have no idea what was driving all this.

He publicly stated that he didn't like to "look back", but that was a facade. Many of his songs demonstrate how he reflected on past events in his life. He was much more nostalgic and sentimental than he wanted the public to know.

*

Older age, especially beyond middle age, often causes one to review, reflect, and want to discuss or clarify one's life and choices. It becomes even more of a factor if one knows or has a feeling that time is limited. It seems, based on his sister's comments, and his choices during the couple of years before his passing, that he may have felt his time was limited.

I agree for sure. The last few years of his life were filled with repairing relationships and reflecting on his life. How great it would have been for him to do a multiple part interview about his life, or at least to have been able to finish his autobiography.

It doesn’t matter what her bosses would think. It’s called selfishness and personal ambition. I hope Prince didn’t feel hurt.

Ah yes, it is MY fault that YOU somehow managed to miss the HUNDREDS of interviews Prince did in the final two DECADES of his life, and that YOU decided to propagate a myth.

.

Again: HUNDREDS of interviews. Or as you describe it: "EVERY little thing".

You don't live in the real world if you honestly believe this.

Prince very publicly declared Tamron as his friend. He used a photo of her for the cover of his single.

To turn around and tell her he wanted to do an interview with a rival network? Of course she's gonna be mad.
