I have never owned a copy of the 1999 album nor have I actually heard it.

I've pre-ordered the 5CD deluxe version - cannot wait.

5 albums worth of Prince material i've never heard! December will be a busy month for me, indeed.

I get it for a general member of the public but I don't understand how you have an account here, let alone have an account for nearly 7.5 years and haven't at least listened once to every released album. Like, how?

Someone posted on twitter only the remastered original 1999 tracks will be available for streaming not the b-sides or unreleased songs to get people to actually buy it...

I’ve honestly been waiting for The Estate to do this with the Purple Rain Deluxe also. They were all available at release on streaming services

1999 is a GREAT record with NO FILLER! I can't believe the deluxe version will not include Extraloveable sad . Was listening to it as I walked into work this morning. What an incredibly funky, rocky, sassy song!

"Extraloveable" is one of few tracks truly worthy of people carrying on 23 pages later. I hope we never stop. I hope fans rent a few dozen Times Square billboards on release day, hire a couple skywriters to spam the airspace outside of WB and Iron Mountain, etc.

Simple - i'm a millennial smile

I embraced Prince very late in my life (circa 2010) and have slowly been digging into this expansive discograpghy. I have many of his albums but 1999 isn't one of them. My first go-around with Purple Rain was the re-issue.

Not to sound pretentious, but i'm taking the journey seriously by not binging the discography enmasse and, instead, going through each album slowly with multiple listens.

One thing I can say is that I did see Prince live and it was an amazing experience. So there's that.

Actually, it's a reference to one of my favourite album by Neil Finn - a guy who actually got me into Prince as Wendy and Lisa played on his One Nil record.

That's going to be a very different journey than most of us have had (I've had a lot of problems with his post black album output, black album being December 1987. Sometimes on lyrical grounds, but mostly on the grounds of him becoming a trend-chaser rather than choosing his own path and me not being open enough to new experiments by him. (it was mostly him not playing nice, honest! eek )

.

Anyway, it'll be a very interesting journey. What have you already visited and do you have a set itinerary or are you open to suggestions of where to travel next? You mention being pulled in by Wendy & Lisa through Neil Finn, did you come in through a Revolution album or just start with 20ten?

No, I started with Diamonds & Pearls because I absolutely loved the hits off that album as a kid, Cream in particular. He's a guy i'd always wanted to get into but never made the time because of other artists that kept me busy. My favourite band is The Beatles and, as a very young teen, was saddened during George's passing.

It wasn't really until around 2010 that I saw Prince's take on While My Guitar Gently Weeps...it was a done deal. I'm also a fairly big Tom Petty fan and he was on stage with George's son, Dhani, so quite a few of my favourite artists have always swayed me in his direction. Noel Gallagher, Mick Jagger, U2 to name a few others. That's when I purchased D&P.

But I even remember a good friend of mine that I had at school had a sister quite some years our senior and she was very much into Prince. I remember her driving us from school one evening and her mixtape

was all Prince. He was always there for me, it just took me a while to come around to it.

But even earlier than even all that, Tim Burton's Batman was one of my favourite films growing up. My favourite scene? The gallery scene where the Joker trashes the place. That is actually the first ever time I heard Prince's music. It was increadible because i'd never heard anything so loose (excuse the pun) or swaggering. The entire scene brought a smile to my face because of both Nicholson and Prince.

I own: Purple Rain, Around the World, Parade, Sign o The Times, D&P, Love Symbol, Come, Gold, Emancipation, Chaos, Rave (as of last week), Musicology, 3121, Planet Earth, Lotus/MPL, ArtOfficial/Plectrum, Piano & Mic.

No reviews yet in the latets issues of UK music monthlies Mojo and Q Magazine. Which means that we'll most likely get those next month, i.e. at about the time the album is released.
