Whatever it turns out to be, people will be disappointed. That's a guarantee. I mean, if its anything other than new music, I'll definitely be disappointed. A few people here are looking for the First Avenue show. But even that would be disappointing to me. The best thing to do is go in with no expectations whatsoever. I mean, we can all wish for live shows, new albums, Deluxe editions etc and that's fine, but deep down we all know that if history has taught us anything, it's to not expect to get what you want when it comes to the Prince Estate. Chances are, it will probably be some bullshit announcement about an event at Paisley Park that 99% of us can't experience anyway.

Yep, this is so true. I want new music, I hope it's new music. But I am certainly not expecting anything particular. I just hope it's not just something pointless like a new line of perfumes and candles. [Edited 7/28/19 12:31pm] RIP

Like, has anything the Prince Estate has done thus far given us any reason to get hyped for this announcement? Based on past evidence, this announcement will be nothing to get excited about.

But it's not likely. So expecting anything like that will only lead to further disappointments.

I think its to announce new vinyls and packs with t-shirts, etc.

I think people are disappointed because deep down, we all know that Prince is dead and gone, and we are just pathetically trying to hold on to what was and what was left behind, and it's so sad, depressing and boring! Living in the past is not really living at all, and what once was, will never be again!

As usual with the estate...
Another incomplete hits collection Prince4Ever, a semi decent PR Deluxe, numerous unecessary releases of NC2U, Piano & A Microphone 83 that should've been a bonus disc at best. Originals was OK... But overall, just meh. MEH.

Living in the past is not really living at all, and what once was, will never be again! Maybe. That's not why I'm disappointed though. But maybe that's the case with some people. My own personal disappointment comes from the fact that Prince left behind potentially hundreds of unreleased songs and all we've gotten so far has been a hastily assembled Purple Rain Deluxe, an "album" of live demos and the Originals album, which was OK but could and should have been much better. Where are the projects he was working on before he died? Black is the New Black, the second 3rdEyeGirl album etc. Those should be the priority. Those are as close as we'll ever get to a "new" Prince album.

So what would I know right? Listening to Exodus is veeeeery inspiring for me. I love that F-bomb album!

Niko Bolas stated on Peach and Black that he heard something that was just piano-based from Prince that was mind-blowing (and different from the released version of whatever he couldn't mention) and will be released in the next few months... make of that what you will.

For this one, he’s probably talking about the full version of “How Come U Don’t Call Me Anymore” that’s on “1999 Deluxe”. "Don't need no Reefer. Don't need Cocaine. Purple Music does the same to my brain."
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Quite possibly. He seemed to have mentioned a couple of things that were coming down the pike soon that were unrelated. That does make sense, though.

They focus on PR / 1999 eras and reissues yet the thing which would be closest to his ethos of moving forward and onto the next thing is neglected and his pigeonholed as the purple rain guy. There’s been long enough to work our contracts and deals, if they wanted to they coulda done this by now. Comin str8 outta Preston...

Exactly. They probably feel (rightly from a commercial viewpoint) that a semi-unfinished, mostly instrumental jazz-funk album (Black is the New Black) and a follow-up to an album that not many people have heard of (3rdEyeGirl 2) would not sell . My guess is, if they do ever release a second 3rdEyeGirl album, it would be as a bonus disk with a re-release of the original record.
I do think they may well at some point attempt to compile and release some sort of compilation of the best unreleased material from say 2012-16 as a kind of 'final album'. Which could be cool .

This is the best way to deal with the Estate and what will will not will possibly be released. Just let it happen with no expectations.

What did the girls from 3rd eye say about this second album ? Did they ever mention how many songs left unreleased ?
