Purple Rain anniversaries - is it time to just stop with the special editions etc? Didn't realise it was yet another anniversary, the 35th - which have been an all too obvious date for the estate to launch something ! Don't know about you lot but I'm kind of done celebrating the movie, the album etc. Clearly its peak Prince but there's been sooooooo much said, released etc. Anything else released now would just be milking it. Yes release a stand alone vault out-takes disc & I suppose the cleaned up MPLS benefit concert on DVD etc.
I'd always welcome new stuff BUT I'd much rather have say Black is the new Black or 1999 special editions etc rather than anything P. Rain related.

Unfortuneatly that's what happens when one album sells over 25 million copies and the rest of your albums during your commercial peak sells an average of 4 million an album. Ofc the general public will always put Purple Rain in the spot light.

A sexy list ! BUT I acn live without any of them. the last 3 in the list are great ideas but I'd rather have stuff that isn't officially around like a full 21 nights in London, P&M shows etc.
1. The Dance Benefit show 1983 - got it already, an important point in history but 1 for the hardcore only. At best we get a cleaner copy. 2. A disc of the videos - we already have access to this stuff, pointless. 3. A soundtrack disco of the music as heard in the movie (with new photos etc) - meh! 4. A Purple Rain tour/show - how many do we have on bootleg already? - Syracuse will do for the masses as it's a brilliant document. 5. A disc of all the award shows/performances/speaches - again, we have all of this. 6. the First Avenue Birthday show 1984 - HELL YES!!!! 7. A full length disco of the PR premiere, with performance by Sheila E and the Prince & the Revolution aftershow performance HELL YES!! 8. Another deluxe of outtakes not included on the previous - HELL YES!!

I also wonder if all connected with the movie including The Revolution, the producers, The Time etc are also sick of talking about it too.

Did they release something for the 35th anniversary? No. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

There´s still soooo much from that era that is worthy of a proper release. First of all they could give us a "real" remaster and not that brickwalled edition we got. First Ave August 1983 in good quality plus bonus material would be great. A couple more Purple Rain show videos/DVD/Bluray of shows with slightly different playlists (I know he played pretty much the same songs during the tour but toward the end of the tour he changed the setlist a bit here and there). A documentary, more songs from that era. What we got was ok for what it was but not really satisfying for the longtime fans. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

- I for one, would LOVE to have all the Purple Rain Tour Shows in one box ! Prince & The Revolution, The Time, Sheila E, Apollonia 6, etc... everything possible. Including extended rehearsals footage, etc. All on BlueRay. I'm even ready to pay big bucks for that! One can dream, right ? - No I'm not Rained out in Purple, I never will to be honest. - Just by seeing the latest video with those rehearsal snippets... I want more. Liek Queen said: "I want it All". - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

I WISH we were spoilt with releases!

I wouldn't mind an upgraded Blu Ray of the film with additional footage/concert sequences, interviews, etc.

[color=blue] one thing being a Prince fan has left me with is an almost insatiable appetite for more material. I still feel that we have barely scratched the surface[\color]

We still haven't gotten what's been mentioned already in this thread, like a Bonus Blu-Ray disc w/deleted scenes or the "Makings of The Rain Benefit Show". So, in my opinion, they still haven't fully capitalized on everything possible.

I'm for anything and everything celebrating Prince and his genius in any way as long it's tastefully done. Celebrating his landmark album and film whenever possible, I see nothing wrong or tiresome about it. Since he's no longer here to give us new music, it's either celebrate his classics or let him slip into oblivion. Can't let that happen.

most coveted would be the outtakes from movie.....but every freakin year they should release something associated with it..theres so f#$%in much.....doesnt the soundtrack continue to sell every year???

I'm over Purple Rain in general and have been for some time. I love it but have just beaten it to death

THIS. IT'S ALMOST AS IF HE'S DONE NOTHING OUTSIDE OF PURPLE RAIN AND PRINCE AND THE REVOLUTION. IT'S DISRESEPCTFUL TO A 40 YEAR CAREER AND IT'S SICKENING

Almost every artist has a landmark album, film, song, etc. Something that put him/her on the map, something he/she is most famous for. What everyone points to and says, ah ha! Nothing bad about that.

I think it's just more egregious because for other artists it's one out of a stack of albums, for Prince it's one out of like 40-55 individual albums depending on how stringent you are with instrumentals, NPG, proteges etc.

I posted this before (pretty obvious stuff, just discussing) but almost everything released since Prince died is from the "Purple Era".

But there are a lot of people who don't have them. . . There are a lot of great PR shows, that would be wonderful to see/hear in a better 'setting' not to mention there are some interesting offnight shows. Like an aftershow with just Prince Bobby Z and BrownMark @ the 7th Avenue Entry. When you say 'WE' a lot of people don't. And again I'm someone who would be happy to have physical hard copies of these things. Especially if my $ can go to the Estate and getting more of similar type output from other periods. I'm at an age where just give me 1977-1989 and I'll be set. There is so much more to my lifes interests.
I mean all of this could/should have been released and a collectors set form by now
