Sex Shooter - 8 - Too short, but decent. I prefer both the Vanity 6 and Apollonia 6 versions but hearing Prince sing it is fascinating.

Jungle Love - 9 - loses a mark for no guitar solo and fading out so early. Prince vocals are great on this though. I'm surprised that I actually prefer his performance to Morris.

Manic Monday - 9 - I do love the Bangles version, and the Apollonia 6 for that matter, but hearing Prince singing a song where his performance is not turned up to 11 and kind of laid back is really interesting, really complements the released version (even with the wrong backing vocals).

Noon Rendezvous - 8 - Piano and Microphone! Obviously it's no live version but I really enjoy this, more than I thought I would.

Make-Up - 8 - Practically the same as the released version, misses the context of the V6 album, great track though. I love this simple experimental stuff.

100 MPH - 7- i'm not huge on this song at the best of times but I quite like it here. Too short.

You're My Love - 8 - if only for Prince's really weird vocals, I wonder how it would have sounded with 1979 production, it's kind of a throwback musically. I was not expecting it to be so similar to the Kenny Rogers version.

Holly Rock - 8 - Ah I love Holly Rock, where's the 1,2,3,4 intro though?

Baby, You're a Trip - 7 - hmm, I prefer the released Jill Jones version, I find Prince's screams a bit grating on this to be honest. It's still very good of course.

The Glamorous Life - 5 - a bit of a mess to my ears. A curiousity for sure but I'll be sticking with the complete Sheila version.

Gigolos Get Lonely Too - 9 - oh man, what a track. This has always been a hidden classic, if only we had the full version eh?

Love... Thy Will Be Done - 8 - Yeah very good, kind of sticks out amongst all the other tracks in that it's Prince in his full on pure and innocent 1990 or so phase. I find it on a par with the released version but i'll probably replace the Martika version with this in my listening.

Dear Michelangelo - 6 - Interesting, but a bit all over the place, he made the right edits on the Sheila E. album. Will probably stick with that one.

Wouldn't You Love to Love Me? - 8 - Great! The sound quality doesn't bother me at all, fantastic little track.

Nothing Compares 2 U - 9 - I think the criticism of the busy mix is fair on this one, but it's still a wonderfully recorded track.

Got to bump "Gigolos Get Lonely Too" up to a 9.5 - I find myself really looking forward to it coming on each time. I fell for the Time version hardcore last year after not finding it that impressive earlier somehow, but it really is a towering achievement.

I would rate the album as a whole... 5. I seem to be one of the few that feel that the Estate is releasing subpar material... the Piano & Microphone 1983 and Originals represent things Prince would never want released. How about some recent music? Seems as though they're limited by something.

I disagree with that statement, because Prince said that "someone else will release the vault material after I'm gone".

It seems like he clearly decided not to have any say in what was released after his passing, so I don't think we can say that Prince would have never wanted this or that released.

During his life? He released what he wanted to be released. After his passing? He clearly had no feelings one way or the other; in fact, I'd bet he knew everything in the vault - good, bad or indifferent - would be released one way or another.

So maybe take another listen to "Originals" without a mental picture of Prince shaking his head "No no no", LOL.

But I DO wholeheartedly agree with the wish for new music. With the exception of Hit N Run Phase I, I think Prince's output in the last ten years of his life was phenomenal. I would love love love to hear more of that!

GOING BANANAS FOR:

1. Sex Shooter 10: I actually thought it was a woman at first... the dude was a friggin shapeshifter.

2. Jungle Love 10: I think it is so much funkier than the Time's version and his Cloreen Bacon Skin "you wanna make love or what" is OUTRAGEOUS!

3. Manic Monday 10: Holy Mother of God, I had been waiting for this and it didn't disappoint. I always wondered how he could describe a day in the life of a regular person with such insight when he spent his adult life as a rock star.. shapeshifter.

4. Wouldn't You Love To Love Me 10: I am addicted to this one.. reminds me of the unrealeased song Lisa mashed up with Extraloveable. There must be so many funky outtakes from this period....and I want them! I also LOVE the snare drum sound - sounds like the same snare drum sound as Life Can Be So Nice.

5. The Glamorous Life 10: This may be my favorite on the album. It is just so funky and in his version, it comes off more like a beautiful poem. Im apeshit for this.

6. Gigolos Get Lonely Too 10: I know it is blasphemy but I am just not a Time fan. I never knew why they bugged me so much because I like them all individually (jesse johnson omg)... so when I heard this, I realized why... because I just want to hear Prince sing these songs... This is a knockout.... damn the lyrics are SO GOOD.. "first class psychiatry"!

ONLY Prince could write that..

And am I nuts but is the backbeat for If I Was Your Girlfriend based on this song?

7. Love Thy Will Be Done 9: I have always loved this song.. I remember hearing Martika's verison when it came out and being blown away by it before I realized who wrote it... figures. I just wonder how it would sound with his regular voice and not falsetto.

8. Nothing Compares 2 U 9: I NEVER wanted to hear this song again. I loved Sinead's but it is just played to death. And I really cannot stand the Las Vegas-y schmaltzy Prince versions.... why on earth is this a duet with Rosie Gaines for crying out loud? Love her... but it doesnt make any sense for this song to be a duet!..... I adore this version. The video still makes me pretty sad tho....

9. 100 MPH 8: I already had this one, so maybe it would be a 10 if I wasn't already so familiar with it. But still really glad it is on here.

10. Make Up 8: I love this... feels like Nine Inch Nails meets Rupaul. Only Prince.

I was just thinking the other day about Prince(r.i.p.) singing 'Sugar Walls' & 'Nasty Girl'! It would be a fantasy come true.

'A Love Bizarre' Prince(r.i.p) already does virtually all the vocals on there already. Deleting Sheila off of it wouldn't have made much difference.

Btw: I love your enthusiastic review. It comes off VERY genuine and not FAKE.

'The Bird" is Prince's song. Jesse said it out of his own mouth. It's actually a version of "The Bird" by his lonesome. But they went with the band version instead on the Ice Cream Castles album. The version of 'Jungle Love' on Originals by Prince(r.i.p.) & done solely by Prince(r.i.p.) . Jesse did admit to being quite impressed with it. It wouldn't have been a hit without Prince's(r.i.p.) final,complete touches. But not to take anything from Jesse his creation helped and now he is finally being rewarded after years of feeling omitted.
