Thank you. That’s brilliant insight. Prodigious talent is an obvious given here, but Prince’s work ethic and courage are what I believe set him as one of the pillars of modern music. Lots of people have lots of talent, some even quite prolific, but very few routinely border on the dysfunctional for the whole of their lives in service of getting it all down, getting it all out. Greatness is often painstaking repetition and solitude. It’s also often utterly exhilarating to the point of losing yourself in the possibility of its flow. The man cut his ear off. Bit of a disservice to the other Minneapolis artists but it makes a great final line...
