I enjoyed it from the get go. "3121" is a great stand-alone track. The fact that Sonny & Michael played on it make it only better. You can hear it's just a jam underneath (much like he took IGBABN and made it into a song). "Lolita" feels demo-y to me.

Te Amo Corazon - a nice little ballad; beautiful video

Black Sweat - in a minority here but it's my least favorite song. It's screechy and annoying

Incense and Candles - It's okay, nothing special, feels like a cousin to "The Sun, the Moon & Stars", the vocoder effects are a bit blood-curling

Love - a favorite; musically it's a bit thin but perhaps on purpose to show off the lyrics which are great, I really feel that song

Satisfied - one of his better sexy ballads in recent years

Fury - a great song, needed a live "band" take on it (why didn't he record this with Sonny & Michael???)

The Word - a mid-tempo semi-etheral dogma-laced chant; almost comes across as a meditation, not horrible

Beautiful Loved & Blessed - a pretty song, not sure why some fans scoffed at it so much (I remember negativity around a song literally about self-positivity)

The Dance - a much better version than the 2004 NPGMC version

Get On The Boat - musically fun, but lyrically a commercial for his local Kingdom Hall.

Last Prince album that had any enjoyable songs for me. Liked 3121, Beuatiful Loved, and Get On The Boat.

Totally forgot that I also used to dig The Word. May have to revisit this album on tomorrow...

I got it on day one! I listed to several times... over a few weeks maybe 20 times... I find there are about 5 Prince worthy tracks on it... the others go from good to Meh...

I am not sure I would pay for it again.

I like 3121.great album a little 2 polished in my opinion , but the songs are good. The album seems like a pop album. not a big fan of Lolita. when i first read the title of Lolita for some reason I expected more. I love the title song, and i think Fury is the best song on the album.

My ex had the cologne. Claimed it was "a gift" but I know he really got it himself. I think he still has the empty bottle. No doubt there's some maniac out there who'd be willing to buy it if he were to sell it on ebay or something.

I went to Targets and bought what they had. It was on sale. I wore it at times, and used up a bottle. I still think I have another one in storage somewhere.

Incredible is probably pushing it, in my estimation, but I do agree with you. That time period is etched in my head because as I said previously, it was around 2006 that I started listening to Prince and 3121 was my first album so I perhaps remember it more vividly than most. And it seemed that every time I seen a story about Prince in the media, the term "3121" was used. By pushing the whole "3121 concept", he created a bit of a buzz. Even other kids in my class, who had never really heard of Prince and would have trouble naming more than 2 songs, knew that 3121 was associated with Prince. Plus, Black Sweat was flavour of the month amongst my classmates for a while too. It just goes to show that even when a lot of his fans had kind of written him off as a legacy act, he was still capable of appealing to a younger demographic and with the right promotion, he could have had many more commercial hits afterwards.

Hello. Been lurking here for years, finally signed up a while ago and never posted. Just chiming in 2 the thirty-one-twenny-one discussion.

I dig the album, always have. I got into P late in the game, ca. 2009 and 3121 was amongst my first albums of his. It's far from perfect, but there are some true standouts. My top-of-the-head rundown:

1. 3121 - brilliant opener that sets a tone that the rest of the album never approaches again. The story behind this song is awesome. Honestly reminds me of Ween.
2. Lolita - fun, forgetful; fun to sing in the car.
3. Te Amo Corazon - smooth, sexy, worth it.
4. Black Sweat - fun, good memories with this song, but not a favorite.
5. Incense and Candles - meh
6. Love - my favorite on the album; the message is too good and the simplicity of its music keeps the flow going. Like a bird flying over the hilltops, Love is like the sky u know it never stops~
7. Satisfied - hot, hot, hot! He played this at the one show I almost caught him at - the last show in TX ca. SXSW Austin some 6ish years ago (along with Xtralovable, my god..)
8. Fury - was my favorite 10 years ago, and it's raunchy... kind of precludes THIRDEYEGIRL a bit.
9. The Word - my followup to Love; a bit preachy but I get it P. Bird ain't The Word, The Word is The Word!
10. Beautiful, Loved, and Blessed - perhaps the biggest underdog for me; it was way down years ago but has jumped way up since he passed.
11. The Dance - moody; has the same desperation that u get on 'A Million Days'.
12. Get on the Boat - fun party song... but not a favorite. A necessary, but overboard flip from the somber and rawness of the previous track. Gotta end on a high note!
