No Prince on stranger things So The Netflix show, Stranger Things, takes place in the 80’s. Have not heard any Prince music. WTF? |

I was surprised about that too! Maybe next season they'll throw his music into an episode, although I'm sure some of the folks here will find an excuse to be highly upset about it |

Next year the movie WONDER WOMAN 1984 comes out. Takes place in 1984. So um... you'd think we'd get some Prince tunes in THAT FOR SURE, wouldn't you? |

Yeah, what?
This show takes place in the 80s, so it must contain some Prince, otherwise weird.
Really? You think this is how it works? |

Love the show, but hadn't even thought about it, really not that big of a deal imo. |

Weird indeed as Indiana, the setting of the show, is just a couple of states from Minnesota, and no way his music didn’t reach the state. "I want to be the only one you come for...." |

there was kind of a Prince easter egg in season 3 when 11 was on the phone with her boyfriend
she said "do you lie?" when it would have made more sense for her to say are you lying...so I don't know if that was intentional but probably not AKA PDEXTER |

ofc it was not intentional, had nothing to do with prince.
that's the way they set 11 to talk. |

I know they played Love Bizzare (1985) by Sheila and Prince in Episode 4 of Pose. Fingers crossed for Prince music to be featured in the new season of American Horror Story: 1984 later on in the year Keep Calm & Listen To Prince |

Someone asked me if I was "Shy" yesterday.
"Shy." Get it? I mean, Come On.
I winked at my fellow Prince fan and gave a light chuckle with a nod. You'd be surprised how many Prince references people throw out in 2019. |

This has always bugged me about Back To The Future.
It takes place in 1985, but the recurring musical reference throughout all 3 movies is Michael Jackson's Thriller. Posters, moonwalk, even Thriller-era computerized MJ in the future.
I would have pegged Marty McFly as a Prince guy, so the posters on the wall and the dance moves should be Prince's!
I guess they were going for more of a family vibe for the movie. |

Maybe they couldn't be arsed to license it. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. |

Interestingly, though, every episode of this season of "Pose" has at least one song written by Prince. [Edited 7/18/19 19:07pm] |

Good call. Marty was into shredding guitar, driving cool cars, and the ladies. None of those things involve Michael Jackson. [Edited 7/18/19 15:57pm] |

Back to the Future (either intentionally or unintentionally) represented the commercial mainstream circa 1985 that MJ was very much apart of. A reference to Prince - who was generally a cult figure exploring artistic niches - would have been a bit jarring in the context of the gauche commercialism of the BTTF series.
Michael was perfect for the tone of those films - which were super mainstream - as he was a super mainstream artist.
A certain kind of mellow. |

In 1985 he was not a "cult" figure at all, he was probably the most spotlighted artist on the planet then.
1999 and Purple Rain shot him up to super star status.

"Family friendly" Michael J. Fox version makes sense with MJ, earlier "darker" Eric Stoltz cut would have made sense with Prince iconography.
