Wine Country Movie I just watched Wine Country: a movie with Maya Rudolph in it and was pleasantly surprised that she found a way to mention her love for Prince in it, and used a cover of IWD4U as the closing song and assume it's her group (named Princess?) that is covering. I know she's a big fan and am assuming she asked the estate for one of his songs (in the part where they each picked a song) and they declined as she used the song Poison. Side note: Poison reminds me a bit of P's We Can Funk song. www.netflix.com/title/80194950 Eventually every cloud runs out of rain.

You don't need permission to re-record someone's song. Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

Yes, that's it. But I'm not sure which P song it reminds me of. I can only recall a snipit in my head, the lyrics were: "make sweet love to you, one time, maybe two" or something like that. I hate getting old and not having a sharp memory anymore! Eventually every cloud runs out of rain.

I'm really surprised you didn't mention the whole scene where her and another girl are in the hot tub talking about Prince. It's about the 26 or 27 minute mark. It's endearing and nice. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

but I believe you do need permission to sync it to a video. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

Oh man, now I REALLY want to see this film!! Love Tina, Amy, Maya and all of the SNL Alum but I did not know Wendy and Lisa were involved!! Maya’s been doing Princess for years. Also loved her “Prince Show” bits with Fred Armeson on SNL They are worth finding on YT for anyone who never watched them

Are you talking about a recording or use of the song by another artist?

I didn't want to spoil it for anyone else. That was my favorite part! It's obvious Maya truly respects Prince. Eventually every cloud runs out of rain.

Her story of sitting near Prince on a flight is great - where she told him her daughter can’t stop looking at him and he replied, “it must be all the white”. He was dressed all in white

Just an added element, from the movie's IMDB Trivia section: "In a scene that takes place in a hot tub, Maya Rudolph (Naomi) and Emily Spivey (Jenny) have a conversation about how much they love Prince. In real life, Rudolph performs along with her friend, Gretchen Lieberum, in a Prince cover band called "Princess." The duo performs often at festivals including Coachella. Prince, himself, heard them sing and approved with "thumbs up and hugs." Shortly after Prince's death in 2016, the two actually performed on the stage at the famed First Avenue in Minneapolis - the music club that was featured in the movie Purple Rain." They also performed Darling Nikki on Jimmy Fallon with The Roots shortly after Prince passed. Very cool - they did the backmasking sounds at the end. * Susannah recently posted an Instagram pic with Wendy stating they were with Maya. Wondering if they performed with Princess or just watched the show.

This film had me at the Pretenders song played at the start, and the Vibrator give away at the restaurant Love all of these smart and funny women!!!!! * The Prince convo in the hot tub was so sweet and endearing. LOVE that they found a way to include a little tribute. And it’s SO true - losing so many musical heroes recently makes one feel very old

Wait...Maya Rudolph is Minnie Ripperton’s daughter? I’m serious, I just learned that right now (and I’m old). Great movie, smart and hilarious! I just needed to chime in. Stand at the crossroads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths...(Jeremiah 6:16) www.ancientfaithradio.com

Beautiful song and she had a beautiful voice. Yes, she for sure had that “whistle register” first for sure. I’m sure she's proud of Maya too

Her lines were the funniest and her facial expressions are priceless...she had me laughing so hard I was crying. Btw, I noticed another Prince reference during her character’s drunken toast to Rachel Dratch’s character. She says something like, “...I may not give you diamonds and I may not give you pearls...”

She had some great scenes- the car scene with the Uber driver, the Vibrator giveaway, the “what age do you feel” scene and more. Many don’t know that she was an SNL writer for years and created many of the classic skits - The Cheerleaders, The Kulps, the “tiny hands” skit with Kristen Wig, the Mom Jeans commercial, the Justin Timberlake singing characters etc. She is hilarious!!
