Prince, the artist...

Not the Artist Formally Known As, but Prince simply as an artist

Put 'Superstar' Prince aside, put aside the celebrity of Prince, the glitz and glam...

How do U C Prince simply as an artist

art·ist
/ˈärdəst/
noun
noun: artist; plural noun: artists
  1. a person who produces paintings or drawings as a profession or hobby.
synonyms: creator, originator, designer, producer, fine artist;More
    old master;
    literarybegetter
"their first exhibition devoted to a single artist"
    • a person who practices any of the various creative arts, such as a sculptor, novelist, poet, or filmmaker.

With all the analogies, proverbs, stereotypes and insights into artists, how do you view Prince?

Can you share a quote about artists that describe Prince?

The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place:

from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider's web.

-Pablo Picasso

Do you think you have to be monstrously selfish to be an artist?

Rebecca Walker: When I was growing up, many female artists adopted the masculine paradigm of the artist, that kind of heroic notion of my-art-at-any-cost, intimacy-not-so-important. There has got to be a way for artists to be both thrillingly productive and also emotionally sane.

Are you saying that artists can actually be nice people?

Rebecca Walker: I am at a point where I want to explore the possibility of being a writer who is deeply mindful of the importance of taking care of people, and holding them in a way that isn't harmful. I don't know if it's possible, but I am going to try.

Fascinating question.

Let's forget charts, sales, the star system, the hits, the success and let's try and evaluate Prince as an artist.

I'm curious to see what comments will be.

That is a Nice picture! ☺ I have been a fan since the late 1980's. I have always viewed him as a phenomenal musician, singer, artist, producer, composer, lyricist, etc. And Handsome.

I like to quote song lyrics. I am obsessed with music.

I dabble in music, fond of writing.

My quote that describes Prince:

His music was/is insightful, honest, fun and mentally-stimulating". -Dalia11.

This is a powerful quote in connection to Prince.

Every man who is any kind of artist has a great deal of female in him.

I act and give of myself as a man, but I register and receive with the soul of a woman.

The only really good artists are feminine.

I can't admit the existence of an artist whose dominant personality is masculine.

I was thinking about creation and female nature. As women we can bring life into the world, Prince created so much and had to be receptive to the music coming in and a willingness to bring it forth into the world. I always thought that helped keep him in touch with his feminine side as women are granted that same gift.

I think Prince wanted this and was this prior to the 1984 hysteria after that he resisted and continued to try to control the fire

The artist must create a spark before he can make a fire and before art is born, the artist must be ready to be consumed by the fire of his own creation. ~ Auguste Rodin
