That was typical for him. He played in the evenings and nights, then slept during the day. Foil is the best way to totally black out a room.

I've heard it explained that a lot of artists put weird and off color requests or demands in thier riders to ensure that people actually READ THEM. Like Van Halen and the "remove all brown M&M's" story.

Apparently, they did that as an easy way to guarantee that their lists were actually read and they could tell right away just by looking at the candy dish. From what I've read, a lot of other artists did similar things.

Having said that, and knowing Kevin Smith's "camel at 3am" story, pretty much nothing Prince might have requested would actually surprise me. He lived in "Prince World" for a Loooonnnnnggg time. And more power to him for it.

Wouldnt the request of foil been out there before he arrived? Why would he have to ask for it in an elevator?

Not really, no. I don't think he was a user to that extent and it's not really what I meant. Was referring more to his eccentricity and rather isolated lifestyle.
