John Singleton & Prince connections? I was kinda shocked hearing about the passing of John Singleton. Boyz N The Hood is one of my favourite movies. Doughboy is the Blueprint of a G. The Monster scene in the end is also a blueprint. Just because it's not exploited, only showing the facts. Ferris and his gang is one of the most fearful villains in movie history, and the "What up punk, what up fool?" scene one of the most scary in movie history. Why? Reality in South Central 1990-1991. Never escaping death and the Grim Reaper. Singleton sure get a nod to MJ in the movie and also directed the "Remember The Time" video. But I never found any qoutes on Prince from google. Did they meet, or had anything to say to eachother? [Edited 5/2/19 14:57pm]

I don't know what you mean by a blueprint. Can you explain that in more detail?

*SPOILER*
Everything up to that point hadn't really left huge echoes beyond LA's borders, yes maybe Colors (1988). However, every hood depiction after this movie, both in Music videos and movies basically borrowed elements from this movie. The bumpin' G-ride that is Doughboys wasn't that prominent before 1991. The Monster Drive-by hold it's own candle. No other depiction has ever come close. Most music videos after 1991 featured blue clothing like Doughboys welcome back BBQ (Crips, I know), most with either a Tigers hat or similar. Racist cops was evidently spot on, since Rodney King happened a few months later.

Thanks for clearing that up. Had no idea he had been that influential.

I remember reading a gossip snippet somewhere. Maybe in an edition of Uptown or Controversy, remember they had thoae "Prince News" sections. Always my favourite part of the magazines, because he was always up to something new and fresh. Anyway, this was about John Singleton flying to meet Prince because Prince was supposedly interested in pursuing his acting career. Obviously never happened, but I always thought it would be cool if he appeared in a substantial role in someone elses decent movie. My password is what
