. Perhaps Costello stopped playing it as he didn't get Prince's permission or he was stopped by Prince's lawyers. You cannot legally cover an unreleased song without the composer's permission.
Maybe. I think it went unnoticed, + it was during his short stint with The Roots, so I guess ?uestlove was behind it.
Nobody needs to ask anyone for permission to perform whatever song live in concert.
The artist gets no royalties from songs performed live. Unless it's officially released on a medium.
As for the probability of Extralovable being released........ KEEP IT AS IS PLEASE!!!!

Moonbeam Levels was done for a Prince-tribute concert back in 2013, "The Music of Prince," held at Carnegie Hall (and also performed at the City Winery the night before). The Roots were basically the house band (with Wendy sitting in), and lots of people filling in vocally for a song. That was it--it was meant as a one-time thing. There was some thing years before when Elvis wanted to record a version of Pop Life that Prince objected to (https://prince.org/msg/5001/461), but I don't think anything like that happened with this one.
[edited to clarify that Moonbeam Levels was the song in question, since that fact was no longer included in the quoted text]

FRom the Info i have from some1 well informed working in the Musical industry.....1999 Deluxe is an opportunity to release something much more substantial than PR Deluxe was.... there are a lot of song fully unreleased & unknown by the most hardcore fans & Big collectors....not only 3 or 4 songs unknown but much much more than that...unfortunately i have no more details to share because this contact can't share more than this...but i can assure u because i trust him....there is a lot unknown studio material in the Vault than what we can suppose....The Vault site for example is far away to report what is in the Vault (Studio Work)!!
Take this 4 what it is .....!

Oh come on, I have the real truth. I know this guy, who knows this girl, who heard from a guy who once ate some pizza with a guy who knew this girl that used to clean the windows at Sunset Sound, and she knew this guy that worked there who new someone that thinks they knew Prince, and told them that 1999 had 6 hours of outtakes. |

Gosh, the people running the estate suck! Couldn’t they add just one more hour to make it 7 hours of outtakes? Don’t those idiots know that 7 was Prince’s favorite number? He even wrote a freakin’ song about it. Ask your source, see if they can make those changes. And tell them to make sure they include that super rare hardcore thrash/polka version of “Horny Toad” that he recorded while chewing on a green jellybean at the warehouse in ‘82. If that’s not on there, it will be a freakin’ travesty! |

Actually I lied. I never really knew this guy who knew a girl who knew a toothpick salesman that once sold five toothpicks to Tony M. But I would not be suprised if 6 hours of halfway decent songs exist from 81/82, and another 12 hours of lesser material. And not to mention the hours and hours of alternate versions. Prince claimed once that he did not do "Demos," and then of course, in other interviews, said he had "demo recordings." If I win one of those $480 million powerballs, I will buy the vault myself, and sell recordings at the right prices. Of course, I have about the same chance of winning powerball, as Shelby J going thirty minutes without shouting "Put Your Hands Up." |

but she also said she never heard "How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore?" again until the Hits and sides came out.
another time Suan Rogers got the known lyrics to "Moonbeam Levels" wrong... but then who knows maybe "board as a stone in rainstorm" was the orginal lyric? *it is very prince like* "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!" |

. Yeah, just some evidence, not proof. Peggy might have worked on the track recently but that doesn't necessarily mean that it will come out soon. Fingers crossed though. |

Only if he didn't own the masters of them. But after a satisfied deal was set in 2014. The "Purple Rain" remaster was already signed, sealed & delivered to wbr before Prince(r.i.p.) transitioned into his after life. Yes but it appears Prince wanted to mess-up with WB even after that deal. I suspect he was still unhappy with 1/ the exclusive distribution deal WB got out of it and 2/ not being able to include the WB-owned side projects in the deal. |
