Guys no offense but it'd be nicer to Prince's legacy to keep those fanmade edits for yourselves. The internet is crowded enough with fakes as it is and many people won't even know that they have a fake. Please do not share those online. People passing along self-edits of Prince's music-- in my opinion (Eff U and ur own sad judgement), although your tastes are your own! Post that stuff in public and you're getting sued, and rightfully so.

Is a fan-made edit really that different than a remix? A certain kind of mellow.

Definitely Love Symbol. D&P sounds dated and is actually one of my least favorite Prince albums. Love Symbol has some of my fave songs...Sweet Baby, The Continental, Damn U, And God Created Woman.

I think The Love Symbol is stronger. Not only are the singles stronger but it also has one of my favorite Prince songs "Blue Light" The Wind and the willow's playing Tea for Two. The Sky Was Yellow and the sun was blue

I prefer by a wide margin. In fact, I often consider it my favorite Prince album.

Noticing a lot of these types on here lately. A certain kind of mellow.

I like them both and feel like many that the Tony M element ruins them both. Both have some great tracks.

This is an unreleased edit that leaked in the “Closer 2 God” collection. It’s an official one. And those versions of these D&P songs are from the “D&P Beginnings” bootleg. You should check it out if you want a vision of the album before all the overdubs. [Edited 4/22/19 10:16am] "Don't need no Reefer. Don't need Cocaine. Purple Music does the same to my brain."

I prefer D&P. I don't like the bombast of the other one.
I also prefer both albums "unrapped," and I'm glad they were shared that way, official or not, because I don't have the skills to make those kinds of edits myself.

Did I pull a gun to you face and ordered you not to do it? Why do people always have to go all freedom fighters every time you kindly tell them you disapprove of something they do? Yes, you guys will do what you wish, and yes I'm gonna tell you that I believe it's wrong every time you mention it, because I do believe it's wrong to harm an artist's legacy by pollenizing fakes online, not to mention disrespectful to the artist themselves, and as an artist myself, who would feel outraged if some stranger would destroy my work by editing it without my permission, I won't change my mind about it, sorry. I appreciate the fact that you try to label your files as fanmade or add txt files to them, but if they end up being shared widely beyond you personal circle of friends, it won't be long before all that data is lost and poor souls download them believing they have the real thing. I know because it's happened countless times before that someone on the org posted about a faker and it turned out they believed it was genuine. Yes because remixes are usually approved by the artist before release. The artist will choose who to give the task of doing the remix and finally decide whether to make it available or not. As such, authorized remixes remain an extention of the artist's creative vision. In the end it's not so different from Prince asking Eric or Levi to finish a demo, Michael B. to replace Prince's drum track by his or Ricky P to embellish a mix with additional sound fx: an authorized remix remains a collaborative work between artist and remixer. . Now there are official remixes that are posthumous or that may be the result of a label's decision without the artist having a say, and as far as I'm concerned those have little more value than fanmade mixes. That remix of NC2U we've been served last year, for example, I don't know what to make of it. This being said, I have to confess that I like Bill Laswell's posthumous tinkering of Bob Marley's works, so at the end of the day there are a few cases where I can tolerate the process because of its artistic value. But what Laswell did goes a little beyond editing Tony M in terms of creativity and added value, and on the principle I would still sympathize with a Bob Marley fan who would call it blasphemy. No one will get sued for doing this, and I certainly did not say or believe that anyone should get sued for a thing like this. There's a margin between believing that something is morally wrong and wishing people to get sued or sentenced for doing it. "We will do what we wish" is going all freedom fighters. You could just have said "thanks, but I disagree with you" but your phrasing suggested that you felt threatened by my request and had to make it clear that you'd bend to no one's will. It's OK, I have an authority problem too when it comes to certain things. And your last statement shows how little respect you have for artists' works. And it's OK because lots of people think that way and I'm still pals with them, but we clearly disagree on the function of arts. Work of arts, in my views, are not for the enjoyement of their audience, they exist primarily for the enjoyement of the artists themselves, and they are an end in themselves. In a way, I even consider audiences a necessary evil, and a nuisance more often than not. As far as I'm concerned, non-artists should be grateful that artists deign sharing their works with them and shut their f*** mouths Now I know, it's a bit radical, but that's how I feel about it A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Love Symbol, If only because it toned down the commercialism.
D&P was a shock, it was mainstream, and lacked all the little quirky, innovative sounds that I loved about Prince. Gett Off is serviceable, but really could have been any other Hip Hop artist of the time. Cream & Money Don’t Matter were pleasant enough, but too safe. Diamond & Pearls (the song) was pure schmaltz, and I couldn’t believe this was the same guy who wrote Adore just 4 years previously.
It worked, as it pushed him back into the mainstream, but I never thought Prince would go down that route.
Love Symbol was a bit of a mess, but Love 2 The 9’s is brilliant, and I liked Sacrifice of Victor, Damn U & The Continental. My Name Is and Sexy MF are horrible, truly horrible. Trend chasing, and don’t get my started on the gun microphone. Still for the songs above I prefer this album over D&P.
