Someone was able to pick me up a purple version of the tape and the japanese white version which is limited to 2000 copies and I was able to buy the regular version at the record store I frequent. He still had 2 copies at closing time so I bought nboth of them.

So it seems there are at least 3 versions out of this thing:

- The limited to 4000 clear cassette
- The limited to 2000 white cassette exclusive to Japan
- The limited to 1000 purple cassette exclusive to Electric Fetus in MPLS

Anyone know of any more?

Hopefully i will find it somewhere for a reasonable price.

I really don't get record store day. I would have really liked a copy of His Majesty's Pop Life but wasn't able to get to the one record store in my city that was taking part as I was away for the weekend. The one record store in the small town I was in wasn't allowed to take part as I doesn't sell enough new vinyl. It sells an awful lot of reissues but not brand new albums. Doesn't make sense as so many RSD releases are of old music. Now I will probably have pay an inflated price. Why not just make everything readily available.

Because Record Store Day is designed to make people visit record stores instead of just shopping online. It's obvious that they want to support stores that focus on selling new titles as they are the ones who are active parts of the current record retail business, therefore they can be partners in breaking new artists, for example. And the limited edition RSD releases are mainly old music because that's what brings in the crowds, the collectors who are also old enough to be able to have more money to spend than the young fans would be able to. It's the hype around limited editions that draws attention to the main message: go support your local dealer.

I normally do. It will be a week on Saturday before I can get there though so chances are it will be sold out.

Yes. I don't see where it says it's the purple version anywhere.

Not sure if it was the purple version either but it was nice to know you still get the cassette for $12.99. Looks like it’s sold out at this point.

Feel sickened. Queued and queued. They’d gone by the time I got in, yet already there are hundreds on eBay. Going for well above what they cost. Meaning hundreds of horrors or bastards who went to buy things, not even to have them but to make a profit on eBay. DOOMED!!!

.

I went to my small local store at 10:30am. Normally the place is empty except for the two Lone Gunman-looking guys that run the place. Imagine my shock when I realized I had to stand in a slow-moving line that wrapped around the aisles. And there were guys in line way ahead of me who had STACKS of records under their arms. Seriously, can anyone really be a fan of *every single act* releasing something on Record Store Day? HELL NO. I stood in line for almost an HOUR before I said "Screw this" and went to have a nice breakfast with my wife instead.

.

(Luckily, at another store, two days later, I found the Matthew Sweet live album, which was my number one want. But the Prince releases, and the Sheena Easton disc, were looooong gone.)

.

So I feel your pain, Mikey. I went to get three things, and I got shut out. There's no way I'm paying 5x the price to some asshole collector/hoarder. My life will continue to be just fine even if I never see these Prince things in the flesh.

No, they should put it on something that doesn't snap, crackle, and pop after two listenings. Vinyl is lame.

Errrr, if your vinyl snaps, crackles and pops after two listens, you really should stop playing your records with a peanut.

Yeah.... there were a bunch of ebayers ahead of me in line. Even with a 1 each limit at my store, some stuff was gone b4 we got in. Lucky for me those guys wanted Dylan and Pearl Jam, we had plenty of Prince when I went through.

EDIT: Mikey, check your store(s) again tomorrow and Mon and Tues, etc... At my store they get more shipments in the days following RSD and often have stuff that they sold out of on SAT.

There’s only the one independent in Preston, Action (world famous) - gonna call them Monday and see if they have any and nip down if they do. It’s frightening how many are on eBay. My flabbers are gasted.

Did you get one? I was on holiday in France but my friends picked me up a copy of Versace experience for my birthday. Not sure if they got it from Preston or maybe Blackburn +is Reidys still open?)

Seems to be some sound issues with the European tape at least.
Comment on discogs confirm my experience.
Sound was really poor quality, sounded blown out.
Bad master or whatever it sounded like some 7th generation bootleg tape.
Had to return mine to the record shop today.
Anyone else actually listened to their tape?
Was looking forward to having this. I have a digital rip of the original tape but...
Just aint the same
sad

Oddly the sales history for this release doesn't show any recent sales:

https://www.discogs.com/T...e/13490601

Maybe they are able to load their inventory without it correlating to a release page. Odd.

I guess they sourced this release from a cassette again – but this time they went even lower than with all the previous releases: now they most probably sourced this from the MASS PRODUCED ORIGINAL TAPE, which means it was a high-speed dub, even worse than a straight cassette recording.

.
I honestly just can't find the words...

.
(Please note I have not heard this cassette so I'm only going by the reports such as the one above but if it's really that bad they surely didn't go back to the original master.)

I listened to the first song (P Control) and had to stop.

This is the worst overmodulation I'v eever heard on an official tape. The thing is recorded WAY too loud, miles onto the red ...

Another collectors' item that's only meant to look at ...

dang. that all sounds awful. i was waiting to borrow a cassette player from my brother to give it a listen. the only player in my house has been used to play my son's bedtime story (something about monkeys who self-procreate, read by raoul julia) nearly every night for the past 8 years. not the player i thought i wanted to hear it on. i was really looking forward to enjoying stuff i'd never heard before.

I have versions of Kiss and Around the World in a Day that were clearly made for a Versace fashion show. I assumed these would be part of the Versace tape, but obviously they aren't.

.

Were those two songs made for the same Versace fashion show as this tape, or were they from different shows?

.

Did Prince re-record other classic songs for Versace that didn't make it onto the tape?

.

The Versace versions of Kiss and ATWIAD sounds like they were recorded live-in-studio to me. Is that right?

.

I tried to find answers to these questions on Prince Vault, but the info there doesn't address my specific questions.

"Somewhere Over The Rainbow / Around The World In A Day / Satisfied / Black Sweat / Kiss / Shhh" is a mix he made for Versace in 2006. It never came out officially.

It was aired on TV and/or streamed online at the time, though, but strangely enough Princevault does not list it.

I couldn't find the exact original broadcast/stream date BTW, but the show happened on 09/29 so it was probably on that very same day live, or in the following days when fashion channels covered it.

I'm a bit confused, though: what I have is

.

- Around The World In A Day - 1:43 (rerecording of the Around The World In A Day album version)
- Lolita - 1:37 (alternate mix of the 3121 album version)
- Love - 1:41 (alternate mix of the 3121 album version)
- Black Sweat - 2:42 (alternate mix of the 3121 album version)
- Kiss - 2:29 (rerecording of the Parade album version)
- Shh! - 2:27 (rerecording of the Tevin Campbell's I'm Ready album version)
.
No trace of Satisfied there, and while Pvault also says Over The Rainbow is in it (on that song's entry), I can't hear it anywhere. Does anyone have something else than what I do?? eek
