3. In the lovesexy tour after the song I Wanna Be Your Lover, Boni Boyer tells Prince to show his love and tells him to "buy you a brand new BMW".Not buy me. Buy YOU.

What? smile)

Prince was actually singing the song to Cat during that part of the Lovesexy show, when she's sitting on the swing. Boni's playing the nosy friend telling Cat to tell Prince to buy you (Cat) a BMW if he really loves you that much. It's somewhat confusing if you're not familiar with the stereotypical snappy BFF from movies, sitcoms and the like. Like Janet and her friend talking at the start of What Have You Done For Me Lately?

WTH IS “vulva splash”? The lyric is “velvet splash”.

Pretty sure the lyric guides are wrong on this one. He is referring to the female orgasm, which for many women, causes a “splash” of fluid released from the vagina. The Vulva is the outer area that protect the vaginal opening.
*
Vulvar Anatomy

The vulva is the external part of the female genitalia. It protects a woman’s sexual organs, urinary opening, vestibule and vagina and is the center of much of a woman’s sexual response. The outer and inner ‘lips’ of the vulva are called the labia majora and labia minora. The vestibule surrounds the opening of the vagina, or introitus, and the opening of the urethra, or urethral meatus. The perineum is the area extending from beneath the vulva to the anus.
*
Think about it. “Velvet splash” makes no sense in the context of the song. The song is about his lover reaching orgasm, and the “splash” is the fluid released during her orgasm.
*
Susannah Melvoin confirmed this during a recent FB live session with Paul Peterson. They were answering fan questions and someone asked why Prince used the ocean waves as the backdrop for the video to Screams of Passion. Susannah said it represented the “vulva splash”. Then Paul joked that he had no idea what the term meant back then, and thought it was “Volvo splash”.

Well, take a listen to the FB live stream with The Family/fDeluxe talking about that very lyric, and why he chose the ocean wave backround for the video. Also, listen to Prince's demo, which sounds MUCH more like "vulva" than "velvet". The former also makes much more sense when you look at the subject of the song - a woman reaching orgasm during sex.

You’re right, vulvacrush, I misheard it. I was listening to Little Red Corvette and, in a similar vein, realized that he says “Baby, you’re much too fast, you need to find a GLOVE that’s gonna last.” Because earlier he talked about the used Trojans in her pocket, and the whole song is about how she’s too fast, so in the context of the song, obviously no Trojan condom is going to last long enough on Prince’s meatus while he is trying to induce a vulva splash, and she can’t keep up while she wiggles her perineum near his Cowper’s gland, and everyone knows that Prince made up his lyrics while reading Wikipedia definitions about female genitalia.

Those lyrics in "Come" are pretty fantastic. Because of the phrasing, the conversation and storyline are sometimes not as clear. But the scenario he sets up is really explicit. Be was fuckin', y'all.

As far as the "Lovesexy" lyric, I've always thought it was literally a quick moment in time during foreplay, noting every single thing that happens in a split second.

Heavy feather flick a nipple - clearly using a feather on a girl's nipples

Baby scram - she got scared of the intimacy and ran away

water ripple - because she got wet, unexpectedly

She replies with "I don't understand". She comes across as not very aware of herself, perhaps not knowing what her body was capable of during lovemaking.

Then again, I could be listening to that song too much. lol

He was more speaking to the act of oral sex with the song Come. "Can I suck you baby?" And, "with my tongue in the crease, baby I go 'round when I go down down down..." And "baby my tongue's gonna do things that you've never seen..."

*

I think he was referring to girls who can only reach orgasm during oral sex. "yeah, that's the only time you go "ooh baby you're so good, ooh baby you're so good"..."Aw, shut-up! This is just so you come...'

God, I feel like I need to go take a shower! rolleyes

Here you go smarta$$ - here is the link to Paul, Jerome, and Susannah talking about the song Screams of Passion during their FB live stream. At about 6 minutes in a fan asks the question,"what was the reason for the ocean back drop in the video for Screams of Passion?" Susannah and Paul answer the question...

I'll just list the exact dialogue here for anyone else who's interested:

*

Paul: "Somebody wanted to know, what was the inspiration for the beach backround for Screams Of Passion - it's too random."

*

Susannah: "oh...."

*

Paul (to Susannah): "you probably know more about that than I do"

*

Susannah: (looks toward Jerome) "Jerome many know..."

*

Jerome: "too random? why do you say too random 30 years later??"

*

Susannah: (laughs) "why did we have the beach back drop...you know what, vulva splash, that's why.

*

Jerome: "because you had a beautiful girl..."

*

Susannah: "and you had a vulva splash, so that's why, and it had to come from somewhere, and it wasn't going to be the pool"

*

Paul: "do you think I had any idea what I was singing about?" (laughs)

*

Susannah: (jokingly says) "is Paul going to be okay singing vulva splash?? Volvo splash...what are we talking about....cars??"

*

Paul: (laughing) is that a new soft drink? (laughing harder)

*

I would bet all of my money that they remember WHAT they were singing while performing the song....

I’m guessing you spent time debating whether “Sugar Walls” was about a gingerbread house or female anatomy.
