As April approaches, I thought it would be a good idea to spend some time thinking about the joy many Prince songs have brought us over the years. Without fail, "Play in the Sunshine" and "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man" put me in a great mood, just to name two of countless others.

Which Prince songs, or even parts of songs, bring you joy, smiles, laughter or lift your spirits in some way?

Facedown. Kiss. Darling Nikki. Vicki Waiting.

Alexa de Paris. It makes me happy because it is so obvious he was happy when he recorded it. Everything about that song is joyous - I think it's the sunniest Prince song ever. And I think the album from that time - Parade - is the happiest-sounding album he ever did.

I'd agree. It's such a wonderful song.

Some of mine are, "Endorphinmachine", "Space", "Strange Relationship", "Anotherloverholenyohead", "Venus De Milo", "Jack U Off", "Love Thy Will B Done", "Moonbeam Levels", "All My Dreams"...

There are many of his songs that bring me joy, smiles, and laughter, but I'll go with Kiss, it just makes you want to dance.

I get the biggest smile watching Prince scat along to the notes on the guitar as he performs All the Critics Love You in New York at Montruex 2009. Just watching him at his absolute best, completely in his element, performing to a level that few artists will ever match.

Studio songs - Adore, International Lover, The Rainbow Children (those chants are infectously joyous), the whole Parade album.

The last Prince shows I saw were at The Myth (in a Minneapolis suburb) with TEG - a dress rehearsal for later dates in 2013. They were great.

I was listening to Cloreen Baconskin the other day and cracking up. The song goes on forever but it's a playful, joyful tune, unless, of course, you're the "wife" he talks about in the song. Isn't this the tune he played for Morris in the studio to help keep Morris "in the pocket"? He was a nutcase at times and this song is clear evidence!

Free for the joy and warm smiles. Face Down and Style for the laughter.

Joy In Repetition brings me joy. Musically, the Rainbow Children makes me smile. Lyrically, the Rainbow Children makes me laugh my ass off. Jughead and Arms of Orion are good for a hearty chuckle, as well.

Most every song already mentioned, but the two best for me are La, La, La, Hee, He, He, just for he layers of humour throughout it ("Are you just gonna play that bass? Are you just gonna do the line? GIMMIE THIS!") and it's energy ("Somebody get Grandma a fan!") And the original Databank, with the band taking control from him and not following his cues. The man had a terrific sense of humour, and both songs slap a smile on my face for their entire durations.

I was kinda shocked he played there , when I was looking up past tour dates. I wish I could have saw him with the girls...their video footage was quite impressive. You're lucky!

The funniest thing happened that night. I had only bought a ticket (VIP) to the first show because they were a little spendy. I got in line early and one of his people came out and was handing out a few wristbands for "extra super VIP," which was an extra little corral right at the very front separated by a barrier from the rest of VIP. So I was in the corral and actually had a spot to sit because there was a little ledge on the barrier.

Folks in VIP got free drinks, but (as usually happened with GA shows), the folks who ended up at the front (but behind the barrier) didn't want to leave to get drinks because they'd lose their spots. So I actually made a couple of runs over to the bar during times when Prince wasn't playing to get bottles of water for the people behind me. I must've raised my karma a couple notches doing that, for reasons that will soon become apparent.

Late in the show, I decided I wanted to stay for the second. So I ran to the back and bought a ticket (non-VIP). But they had to find a way to make sure the first show people who were doing the second show got in again without having to go to the back of the line. So they took us out another door in the back of the venue and gave everyone wristbands. Now, all the wristbands denoted VIP, which I wasn't. I was very upfront with the wristband guy that I hadn't bought VIP for the second show, but he clearly didn't want to bother with getting me around the building to where the rest of the "cheap SRO" folks were. So he just slapped a VIP wristband on me and left me where I was.

And that, children, is how I ended up right in front for TWO Prince shows that night.
